Delegate Jennifer Carroll Foy (D-Prince William) is resigning her seat in the House of Delegates to focus on her run for Governor. Members of the General Assembly are prohibited from fundraising when they are in session which may be one of the reasons Foy is resigning now. Foy was first elected to the House of Delegates in 2017 and re-elected last year, 2019.
Only two other Democrats have declared they are running for Governor, state Senator Jennifer McClellan, and LG Justin Fairfax although both former Governor Terry McAuliffe and Delegate Lee J. Carter (Prince William) have expressed an interest in running.
The House of Delegates convenes on January 13th making it difficult to fill Foy’s seat in time. Democrats are currently up 10 seats in the House.
