Democrat Pickpockets

Right now, we are, and forever will be, taxed exorbitantly on the sale value of our homes.  Why have property taxes gone up exponentially…three times faster than inflation, per the Fairfax County Taxpayers Alliance… since the late Gerry Connolly was the Chairman of Fairfax County’s Board of Supervisors?  Because the Democrat Party has trained us to accept their logic that since we own a home here, we must pay for police and fire protection, emergency ambulances, street paving, bike lanes, and other necessary governmental services by way of property taxes.  But aren’t those services provided identically for people who own ‘average’ homes as well as those who own ‘expensive’ homes?  As an example, my >$8000 yearly real estate bill gets me the same level of county services as someone else whose home is assessed at half the value of mine.  Why do I pay more for identical levels of service?  And what of those folks who don’t own a home but live in apartments?  They get the same county services I do without paying over $8000 in taxes on their residences.  Why aren’t they taxed as much as I am?

What we have here is nothing other than a tax on unrealized gains.  I pay more simply because my home is worth more this year than last, regardless of the fact that I cannot enjoy that increased value unless and until I sell my home.  Kamala Harris and the national Democrat machine wanted to impose such a tax on financial gains in stocks, bonds, and bank accounts where people managed to make a paper profit but hadn’t yet cashed out.  Thankfully, it failed spectacularly because it was so clearly confiscatory and envious…period.  

Likewise, I have 2 Honda Accords in my driveway, one seventeen years newer than the other.  Why do I pay $450 in taxes on the newer one and $0 on the older one?  They both get me where I need to go in the same amount of time and using the same amount of roadway.  They are within inches of each other in length so take up the same amount of parking space.  In fact, my newer one gets much better mileage so why am I taxed more rather than being rewarded for doing my part in saving the planet?   Then there is the Virginia’s Highway Use Fee (https://www.dmv.virginia.gov/vehicles/taxes-fees/highway-use), passed by Gov. Northam and the Democrats during the Covid planned demic in 2020, that imposes a state tax on vehicles that get 25 or more miles per gallon!  What???   

This is what Democrat politicians have devolved into:  legal pickpockets obsessed with getting reelected by buying support from teachers’ and other unions and select other groups by using OUR money to secure their loyalty and, most importantly, campaign donations and help around election time.  I will bet that these politicians would have a very hard time getting productive jobs working in the private sector.
