The report of Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller has clearly established that there was no conspiracy between Donald Trump and/or his campaign members to conspire with Russian government officials to alter the outcome of the 2016 election.
Since the wheels have fallen off the wagon on the collusion/conspiracy theory the Democrats are now compelled to fall back on their last line of defense: Trump obstructed justice!
The chief problem with this argument is that Mueller concluded there was no underlying crime. In the case of President Richard Nixon regarding the Watergate fiasco there actually was an underlying crime: to wit, G. Gordon Liddy and his associates breaking into the Democratic National Headquarters to steal documents. Nixon famously remarked: “Is it Liddy? Is that the fellow? He must be a little nuts. I mean he just isn’t well screwed on is he? Isn’t that the problem?” (Nixon conversation with H.R. Haldeman, June 1972). If Nixon had at that point in time stated to the general public that Liddy’s activities were unknown to and unauthorized by him, Nixon would never have been impeached.
But I digress.
There is no underlying crime in the case of President Trump. The mainstream media can drag out the tired old carcasses of washed up people like Carl Bernstein and proclaim there are similarities between Nixon and Trump but there really aren’t any.
Regarding the obstruction of justice case I would refer to the cogent comments of universally respected law Professor Jonathan Turley (no friend of President Trump as the article linked below indicates) who stated: “There seems little question that Trump wanted the investigation to end and wanted to fire key players in the investigation, according to the report. But he did not fire anyone involved in the investigation. He did not destroy any evidence. He did not end the investigation prematurely. He took no actual obstructive acts. To charge him would have amounted to a virtual thought crime.” https://thehill.com/opinion/judiciary/439531-mueller-report-resonates-whether-you-love-or-hate-president-trump
Is it too much for Americans to ask the Democrats to just admit they were defeated in a free and fair election? Apparently it is too much to ask because they continue this charade and are constantly moving the goal posts.
