Desperate Measures

Vice-president Kamala Harris is rolling her joyful, “see no evil,” know-nothing campaign for the nation’s highest office across the handful of “battleground” states whose electoral votes she must win to be elected. But as she romps (and giggles) on, even voters and politicians of her own party are complaining that she isn’t spelling out what she intends to do and how she plans to govern, should she win the world’s most powerful office. She’s basically saying, “Trust me. It will be great, and everybody will be happy.”

To reinforce her laugh-a-minute campaign – accompanied by the even more joyful (but moderate) communist governor of Minnesota – Big Media organs are diligently reporting that she is sweeping the polling field with one positive report after another. By their accounts, she has turned the race around completely by presenting a fresh, young political face and voice to the party that was recently led by a doddering octogenarian who couldn’t speak a coherent paragraph or find his way off the stage.

Democrat-aligned reporters and analysts are deliriously calling Ms. Harris the “Female Obama,” who has arrived in the nick of time to save the country from the evil “threat to Democracy,” Donald Trump. Never mind that they thought she was an idiot just two months ago. That’s all past and forgotten. Now she’s the savior of the country and probably of the world. It’s a miracle – almost a rapture.

With all that rapturous celebrating going on, one has to wonder why anyone would risk getting killed trying to assassinate the guy who is 90% certain to lose in November. Surely it’s not worth the trouble. Didn’t that kid in Pennsylvania and middle-aged guy in Florida get the word to stand down? As they say in Brooklyn, “Fahgeddabout it!”

In the Sherlock Holmes story, “Silver Blaze,” a valuable racehorse is mysteriously stolen from its stall in the dead of night. There is no evidence to show how the deed was done, but Mr. Holmes calls attention to “the curious incident of the dog in the night.” When staff members say that the dog did nothing in the night, the Great Detective replies, “That is the curious incident.” Readers of the story learn that the dog’s silence meant that the midnight thief was known to the dog.

Just so, the “curious incidents” of two would-be assassins trying to attack an opponent who is certain to lose, must have a discernible explanation. What could it be? As I see it, that explanation is that the shadowy insiders running the Harris campaign know that those polls showing her romping ahead of Mr. Trump are pure baloney. They know that she is not sweeping the field. And they gloomily suspect that millions of ordinary working-class people – now holding their cards close to the vest – are preparing to deliver a knockout punch to Democrats’ empty-headed apostle-ette of joy in the November election.

I’d like to claim that I authored this line of thinking, but I must admit that a close associate suggested it to me. He says the assassination tries show that the Dems’ ruling cabal – who are certainly getting far better campaign-info than the rubbish ordinary schmoes like us are seeing – must know that they can’t stop the resurgent Donald with mere votes. They’ve tried everything to bring him down since 2015, including fake Russia-collusion tales, a two-year special prosecutor, two impeachments while he was president, and bogus criminal charges brought by ambitious local prosecutors. They prosecuted his former staff members to try to get them to dish dirt on him. And after his term they sent the FBI to raid his Florida home. They’ve thrown everything at him but the kitchen sink, but nothing has worked.

My conspiracy-theory advisor also points out that Democrats’ hole-card, the classic late-appearing mail-in ballots – which worked so well in 2020 – might not turn things their way this time. In 2020 the mail-in ballots were a surprise that Republicans weren’t prepared for. The vote was very close in several key states, so adding a few thousand late ballots did the trick. This time, Republicans will be extra watchful – or, at least, they should be – so a few late-ballots might not be enough. Also, some states have enacted requirements for hand-counting of ballots, indicating more awareness of possible election-cheating.

In view of all this – i.e., the disastrous record of the Biden-Harris administration, the failure of the lawfare offensive, the vacuous Harris campaign, and the beefed-up election security – my conspiracy-advisor says assassination is basically the only tool Democrats have left to stop Mr. Trump. The kid on the roof and the guy in the bushes can be regarded as tryouts. But many other ways could be employed: e.g., a bomb on the Trump airplane, or in his home, or under the dais at a rally. A child could see how vulnerable he is.

The bottom line is that Mr. Trump’s enemies – far more dangerous now than mere political opponents – probably know they can stop him only by violent means. My advisor believes they’ll stop at nothing.

In his recent article, “Democrat Death Cult,”¹ Everette Piper reported on a poll that showed 28% of Democrats declaring that America would be better off if Donald Trump were assassinated, while another 24% said they “weren’t sure” about it. In sum, more than half of Democrat voters wouldn’t say killing a political opponent is morally wrong. Does it mean they really believe all that rubbish about Trump being the new Hitler? Or is he just an inconvenient obstacle to the leftist agenda they so ardently support? Poll-numbers like this mean Democrats are basically drinking their own bathwater. Past American patriots like FDR, Harry Truman and JFK wouldn’t recognize what their old Party of the Common Man has become.

If you’re a person of faith – and even if you aren’t – consider sending up a prayer for Mr. Trump’s safety during the rest of the campaign – and after he is elected, if that’s how things work out. And while you’re at it, you might beg the Almighty to deliver the country from a major political faction whose adherents think it’s morally OK to murder a candidate for our highest office because they don’t like the cut of his jib (or his hair). We can’t continue on this course and remain a nation whose God is the Lord. Something needs to change here, or our venerable Ship of State is going down, hard by the bow. And we’re all going down with it.
