The first Presidential debate of this election cycle will be held Monday, September 26th. It will be held at Hofstra University on Long Island, New York.
The debate will begin at 9:00pm eastern time and last for 90 minutes without any breaks. There will be no commercial breaks for any reason. The audience is expected to break the record set in 1980 when Carter debated Reagan. That debate was watched by 80 million people. Tomorrow night 100 million are expected to watch.
Lester Holt, host of “NBC Nightly News” will be the debate moderator. It will be his first time to moderate a Presidential debate. There were supposed to be 6 topics, each for 15 minutes, but Holt chose only three of those topics,”America’s Direction,” “Achieving Prosperity,” and “Securing America.” Each of those topics will have two 15 minute time periods. Holt will ask a question, each candidate will have 2 minutes to respond after that Holt will fill the time with follow up questions.
Trump objected to the dates chosen for the debates because two of them compete with NFL football games. On Monday night the Atlanta Falcons will be playing the New Orleans Saints at the same a time as the Presidential debate.
All major networks, CBS, NBC, ABC, and FOX and all the cable news networks will carry the debate. The NFL game will be televised on ESPN.
