What we used to call liberalism, now labeled progressivism, is merely the first stage of a virulent parasitic political infection of Socialism that always progresses to kill the host. There is no known cure.
For the entirety of the last century, the inevitable evolution and end stages of socialist ideologies have led to violent totalitarianism, and their Marxist-based offshoots have failed time and again. The Russian Revolution in 1917 was the patient zero for a soul-crushing infection that would affect the world. Its main accomplishments were death, famine, social chaos, and human degradation.
Next, the National Socialist Party, or Nazi party of Germany and fascist Italy (and Japan) started the long trajectory to national self-immolation and worldwide war that took upwards of 85 million lives. While the media still portrays these countries’ politics as manifestations of the nationalist political right, they were all pillared by statist ideology and socialist economic nostrums. [The late Harvard professor and Russian expert, Richard Pipes, would famously write: “Bolshevism and fascism were heresies of socialism.” Other scholars point to the founding members of these branches as revolutionary Marxists and radical union communists.]
After the Second World War, Mao, Pol Pot, Castro, Chávez, and a long train of others murdered many tens of millions of people, mostly their own countrymen, while turning their economies into sewers of poverty and misery.

They have drawn direct ideological impetus and concepts from history’s most significant failures and used the skeletal framework of Marxism to fashion cultural Marxism, or neo-Marxism, labeling it “democratic socialism,” protected through corrupt, facile parliamentary systems and funded by marginally free economies. When one agenda collapses and crumbles, others are trotted out to camouflage the damage from the former.
And, always in the kill zone are the destruction of the family unit and faith in God, the consistent priority of evil governments. The Moral Order is what cultural Marxists fear most. Its mere presence reflects the emptiness of their minds and souls.
After 5,000 years of human history, the only real interruption to the model of kings, despots, strongmen, warlords, and thugs was ignited on July 4, 1776, with the American Revolution. The Declaration of Independence marks the division between the old and new Worlds, the ancient and the modern. It is the birth of the Freedom Agenda.
This week, Americans celebrate their independence from a repressive King and a scheming British parliament 249 years ago, an ocean away, as well as the events that led to the creation of a Constitutional Republic—a representative democracy.
We also celebrate the rare historical gathering of incredible minds and spirits in one place, all united for a single purpose – to create a new society and country. The men and women who would claw their way through the Revolutionary War regarded democracy and parliaments, and wisely assessed them as “mob rule.” Instead, they looked to the covenantal and historical imperatives that had been born in the early Colonial churches and pulpits, and picked through the best minds of the Enlightenment.
It was a world-changing declaration that set the stage for a new history. “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of happiness.”
This declaration of freedom avowed that this new country would not look to an earthly king for the rights that the heavenly King had already provided.
George Washington would later say plainly, “The Man must be bad indeed who can look upon the events of the American Revolution without feeling the warmest gratitude towards the great Author of the Universe, whose divine interposition was so frequently manifested in our behalf.”
This July 4, we find the American Founding and its constitutional order under intense and coordinated attack by an assorted mob of radical judges, academics, Marxists, communists, anarchists, anti-capitalists, and globalists both at home and especially abroad, while the digital super-elite are poised to claim their own superpower status among the world’s powers. The reason these people are increasingly virulent and unrelenting in their attacks on the Founding and the concept of human freedom is simple – they are not good people. Human freedom is a pretense unfit for a new world order that demands serfs, not citizens.
This week should remind and renew Americans, that the sovereign freedoms of men and women to think, worship, speak, live and prosper are never in more grave danger than when they are at the whim of a majority whose purposes can be nothing but self-seeking – or worse, intent on making everyone bow to an evil they pray to.
And if America wants to give the world its most valuable treasure, it will be to make the freedom agenda its prime export. It will be a bold reaffirmation and deliberate proclamation to the world that the freedom agenda isn’t exclusive. America’s great prominence and wealth aren’t a fluke, nor a coincidence of history. It is because our Founders recognized the divine blueprint for human freedom and were humble enough to use it.

Excellent history lesson with appropriate credit for the founding of our great, innovative, welcoming nation given to those who most deserve it: God, whose beneficence made it possible, and those men in Philadelphia who risked their livelihoods and lives to construct a government that made their new country a beacon of freedom for all the world to admire. Also, let us not forget the thousands of ‘rebels’ who lost their lives in their fight for freedom.
