Former Congressman Tom Garrett has endorsed Bob Good for Congress in the 5th district where he is challenging Congressman Denver Riggleman. (Details on the Biennial 5th District Convention, June 13, 2020, here.)
In his weekly radio show on WCHV, Rep. Garrett talked about his friendship with Denver Riggleman and then went on to say why he’s supporting Bob Good in the 5th district convention.
Garrett cited Riggleman’s compromised votes in Congress on individual liberty and fiscal restraint, spending, and his vote on the government shutdown as reasons why he is not supporting him. In speaking of Riggleman’s time in Congress Garrett said,
You don’t accidentally go to Washington as a first-term freshman and land on an ‘A’ fundraising committee. There’s a deal that’s been made. Denver goes to Washington and lands on the financial services committee, which is a top-tier fundraising committee…there was a deal made…if you look at the votes.”
“On individual liberty and freedom from surveillance…Denver broke ranks with the entire Republican delegation in Virginia in voting to extend…the Patriot Act, which literally allows for the warrantless collection of information”.
Garrett added, “What a letdown on individual liberty and freedom and this is not what he ran as.”
