The Governor has moved the Republican Senate primary from June 9th to June 23rd.
Northam is also asking the General Assembly to change the date for municipal elections from May 5th until November 3rd. Current officeholders would remain in place until the November election. All absentee ballots previously cast for these elections would be discarded.
Northam has the power to delay the primary under Chapter 24.2 Section 603.1 code of Virginia.
At his press conference today the Governor said he is making these changes so voters and election workers do not have to risk their health to vote.
