This country has a $17 trillion debt, broken entitlements, and a lagging economy, but Senator Harry Reid and his fellow Senate Democrats have decided their priority is to write a letter to the NFL and complain about the Redskins name. I kid you not!
I don’t know what is more disturbing, Harry Reid’s complete lack of priorities or his brazen abuse of power. You thought Congress was out of control with its $17 trillion debt? Well, even though the debt is disgusting and unacceptable, Congress is actually delegated the authority for spending (which they irresponsibly do quite well) in the Constitution. Where does Harry Reid think he gets the right to insert himself in the private affairs of a business? Congress should not be dictating, pressuring, or inserting itself in business decisions – and their opinion on the name of a football team is irrelevant.
The Washington Times reported that Redskin president, Bruce Allen, quickly shot back a response that said, in part:
90 percent of Americans in one poll didn’t find the team name offensive, and that an Associated Press survey earlier this year found 83 percent of Americans supported keeping the team name.
“What policy or issue generates 83 percent to 90 percent support is this era of negativity and division?” he [Bruce Allen] asked.
I can answer that! I’m pretty sure that 90% of Americans don’t care what Reid and his fellow Democrats think of the Redskins name. Hey Harry, we don’t need an extra man on the field, so stay on the sidelines!
I was raised a Redskins fan. I’ve stuck with them through the good seasons and lots of bad seasons. I’m sticking with them now. Go Skins!
