Indicting a ham sandwich

written by Dr. Robert Warren March 31, 2023

On Thursday, 30 March 2023, a New York City Grand Jury indicted a ham sandwich.  It was a difficult slog through muck and mire but, in the end, they did their duty and the ham sandwich now stands accused of —- well nobody really knows what that is, even the Grand Jury.

The phrase “indicting a ham sandwich” comes not unexpectedly, from a New York Chief judge, Sol Wachtler, who was famously quoted by Tom Wolfe in his novel “The Bonfire of the Vanities”.  (The quote is that “a grand jury would ‘indict a ham sandwich,’ if that’s what you wanted.”)  And, by God, a New York City Grand Jury just did exactly that.

The phrase “Bonfire of the Vanities” relates to the burning of objects condemned by religious authorities as sinful.  Specifically referenced is 7 February 1497 when the faithful supporting Friar Girolamo Savonarola gathered and burned thousands of books, art and other sinful objects in the public square of Florence Italy.  (Francesco Guicciadini’s in his “History of Florence” notes that the focus of the destruction was objects of temptation and included mirrors, cosmetics, fine dresses, playing cards, and musical instrument as well as immoral written or painted works of all kinds.)

The “ham sandwich” in this article is Donald Trump.  Democrats, so fearful of his election, have pulled out all the stops.  If the Soros DA in NYC didn’t get him then Atlanta was next and who know what Soros Democrat run city would follow.  The desperation to get rid of a formidable Trump candidacy is palatable and the  weaponization of American government at all levels is never more obvious.  (The famous Dreyfus case over a century ago involved a similar witch hunt and legal abuse.  The phrase “J’Accuse” was written by Emile Zola as a condemnation of the French government’s abuse of power and the resulting injustice.  J’Accuse applies here.)

I wonder if Soros DA Bragg has thought about the consequences beyond the indictment?  For example, if he ever leaves New York City and happens to travel through a red county,  town or state, he could arrested and treated like a ham sandwich — felony running of a stop sign and scaring a homeless cat would work. (Notably, in red areas, felony running of a stop sign is not a fine but confinement in jail until a judge is available – could be months in some instances.  The current situation with the J6 prisoners whose constitutional rights have been rendered meaningless applies.)

But let’s look further.   Can any Republican run for President if he has a business or even personal history in a Soros Democrat run city?  Such a Republican candidate will immediately be subject to trumped up charges and indicted using ham sandwich criteria.  The indicted get the opportunity to prove their innocence at a jury trial.  The fact that the indicted is constitutionally innocent until proven guilty no longer applies – see Nancy Pelosi saying that “Trump will have the right to prove his innocence”.  (This, of course, is exactly the situation that Dreyfus found himself in.  He ended up convicted, sentenced to life in prison, and served five years at Devil’s Island under the most horrific of prison conditions.  He was released when the injustice became obvious.)

Currently, the constitutionally designed justice system no longer exists.  It has been replaced by the ham sandwich.
