In 2022 Jay Jones sent texts to Del. Carrie Coyner, R-Chesterfield, talking about shooting former speaker of the House of Delegate, Todd Gilbert.
Del. Coyner has confirm the texts. National Review first reported these texts.
Jay Jones’ texts are grey and Coyner’s are in blue:

Coyner’s statement:
“On August 8, 2022 I had a text conversation with Jay Jones, what he said was not just disturbing but disqualifying for anyone who wants to seek public office. Jay Jones wished violence on the children of a colleague and joked about shooting Todd Gilbert. It’s disgusting and unbecoming of any public official.”
Jay Jones’ statement:
“Like all people, I’ve sent text messages that I regret and I believe that violent rhetoric has no place in our politics,” Jones said. “Let’s be clear about what is happening in the Attorney General race right now: Jason Miyares is dropping smears through Trump-controlled media organizations to assault my character and rescue his desperate campaign. This is a strategy that ensures Jason Miyares will continue to be accountable to Donald Trump, not the people of Virginia. This race is about whether Trump can control Virginia or Virginians control Virginia.”
Jay Jones’ texts have nothing to do with Jason Miyares or President Trump. He’s trying to deflect. It won’t work.
Jay Jones needs to resign his candidacy. He is not fit to serve as our Attorney General.

There is a sick consistency within the Democrat ticket in Virginia. First we have a Spanberger campaign staffer post “F around and find out” following the Charlie Kirk assassination. We also had a key Spanberger endorser from Chesterfield County post “call me old fashioned, but I remember when we were okay with shooting Nazis” also in reference to Charlie Kirk’s murder. Now we have this deranged rhetoric from the Democrat candidate for Attorney General, Jay Jones, about shooting GOP Delegate Todd Gilbert in the head. These outrageous comments may fuel further political violence – it’s far past time for Spanberger to formally rebuke these Democrats.
The heart of Democrats is laid bare for all to see. It is my sincere hope that rationale Democrats rise up against the Marxists within their midst and root out their devilish “progressives.”
Jay Jones has issued an apology.
Yesterday Sean (P Diddy, Puff Daddy) Combs gave an apology but the Judge wasn’t buying it.
He was sentenced for crimes of violence as he should have been.
We don’t need any elected Representative to speak this way and especially in a violent way.
I personally think Jay Jones’s apology is along the lines of Combs himself.
Folks,
One of responsibilities of our elected Attorney General is to make sure that all State Agencies and Departments operate with the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia and hopefully our Governor’s policies that are implemented.
With Jason Miyares as Attorney General I believe we have that bright light of integrity to represent the citizens expectations that come with holding that position.
Mr. Jones is emblematic of the severe disease of violence that historically has been at the soul of the Democrat party, home of Jefferson Davis, Jim Crow, and the KKK. The shocking approval of the current public violence, rioting, and mayhem shouldn’t surprise anyone. We’ve seen two attempts on Donald Trump’s life, one of which killed a spectator and seriously hurt several others. The other attempt was only discovered at the last moment. And, of course, Charlie Kirk was murdered only last month. The top leadership of the Democrats encourages it with their unhinged language and stupidity. After the repeated demonstrations in the previous twelve months that they are now publicly the party of illegal aliens, illegal street crime, illegal theft, illegal drug and child smuggling rings, with pro-terrorist, antisemitic sympathies, it’s no wonder that Mr. Jones is the Democrat AG candidate. (And, no, Mr. Jones, most of us haven’t “sent text messages that [we] regret.” He and Ms. Spanberger are bookends to a party that can’t even define a woman and is fine with boys showering with girls if they have a fancy, so why would you expect decency at any level? You can’t. What a crushing disaster for the great Commonwealth of Virginia, which gave so much to the Republic’s founding, if this ticket were to receive more than 10% of the vote in November, much less actually win.
You are so right!
All from the Party of “Peace, Love, and Inclusivity” YES Jay Jones needs to resign his candidacy. He is not fit to serve as our Attorney General.
Which is why I have already voted for Winsome Sears, John Reid, and Jason Miyares!
