Justice For All

written by Guest Contributor Alison Joanne Poplar October 2, 2025

Why are individuals with long and documented histories of numerous convictions and felonies being released back onto our streets?

Listening to a tearful grandmother describe the painful journey her family has endured is devastating. After nine long months, they learned that the man who shot her grandson seven times would not face first-degree murder charges. To make matters worse, the killer already had a record of drug and gun charges. Each day, this family bears a soul-deep pain, knowing the one who stole their loved one’s life will serve too short a jail time, released to walk free because of a failed justice system.

The grieving words of a father whose daughter was murdered by a man with multiple arrests and felony convictions are both heartbreaking and infuriating. Why was this man free? And why aren’t those who made the reckless decision to release him being held accountable?

No excuse, loophole, or technicality should ever override the duty to protect innocent lives. Allowing this repeat predator to walk free directly led to the senseless murder of a 22-year-old woman, a young person with her whole life ahead of her, just like so many others her age.

The recent murder of a young woman on her way home from work, again at the hands of a repeat offender with multiple arrests and convictions, shows just how dangerous it has become. Who decided to let this deranged individual back onto the streets, and why?

Being “soft on crime” has too often meant refusing to charge perpetrators to the fullest extent of the law, especially repeat offenders who treat the court system as a revolving door. We must confront the reality of the criminally violent and the mentally unstable. Each offender should undergo a serious mental evaluation, with decisions based on the risk they pose to the public. Reducing the prison population for the sake of lowering recidivism is failing. Public safety, not statistics, must come first.

The rule of law is not a new concept. Our Founding Fathers firmly believed in them. As John Adams wrote, “We are a government of laws, not of men.” They understood that a free society depends on the consistent enforcement of criminal laws. Prosecuting criminals upholds both order and justice, reflecting not only a civic duty but also a moral responsibility essential to preserving our safety, security, and liberty.

As we move through the election season, it is vital to elect Republican leaders who not only respect but follow through on the rule of law. We need leaders committed to prosecuting criminals and holding them accountable because failing to do so allows dangerous individuals back onto our streets. This endless cycle of career criminals not being accountable for their actions must stop once and for all.  Laws without enforcement and accountability simply results in lawlessness and anarchy prevails.

Don’t vote democrat if you value life October 2, 2025 at 5:39 pm

Democrats would rather the victim suffer than go through the arduous process of taking criminals off the street. They have it much easier and certainly less expensive for their version of the state to simple bury the victim and put the murderer back on the street. Best example of this is that the democrats eliminated the effective death penalty for heinous crimes in virginia. The murderer, in their mind, is every bit as much a victim as is someone like the young Ukrainian refugee riding home from work on the Charlotte tram.
