[…] we reported earlier, Rubio has done very well with endorsements in Virginia. He has made an effort to court Romney supporters in the Commonwealth. Comstock lead […]
Steve,
Fox tonight commented on Rubio missing once again important votes.
Christie’s recent comment about his missed votes.
“I don’t agree with these folks in Congress, including Senator Rubio, who said that his vote doesn’t matter anymore and that’s why he doesn’t show up,” Christie said. “By the way, that’s also baloney.”
Rubio financial mess and his comments on why he is missing votes is causing to lose support.
List is not impressive at all considering there are a bunch of political wannabes, losing candidates for office, and staffers of elected officials. I am surprise they are not including the janitor that cleans up the Republican committee rooms.
Some of the elected folks on the list are low level county supervisors who have no real power in the jurisdiction they represent.
I am surprise Hugo has not added students on the list from local high schools or colleges.
Also it appears that many of the elected officials on the list are folks Hugo gave money to their campaigns recently and feel obligated to return the favor.
I hear that guy from PWC Candland is in a bit of trouble politically.
It’s disheartening to see the continued use of the derisive terms “RINO” and “establishment” by certain segments of our conservative movement. At a time when we need to (1) unify as Republicans and (2) get behind viable candidates to beat Hillary, we still suffer from this childish insistence on beating up on our own party.
Marco Rubio impresses me as a knowledgeable, articulate, thoughtful, and disciplined candidate.
His Hispanic heritage is very important in helping to secure support from that increasingly important population. He has a telegenic presence which is very important in this age of TV. To eliminate such a good candidate simply on the basis of his efforts to address the illegal alien challenge seems counterproductive.
2016 may be our last great hope to win the white house. For that reason alone, we need to stop the internecine strife. And yes, I will vote for Donald Trump, if it comes to that.
The problem is, the terms are true. RINO means we’re being led by Democrats, establishment means those folks are entrenched in positions of power. Meanwhile, they call us “nativist” which is vaguely more polite way of saying racist, and “populist” which means they don’t think we stand for anything other than the politics of the moment.
In other words, our definitions for the “them” in this situation are true. Their definitions for “us” aren’t.
Gang of 8 Immigration Bill. Period. Support Cruz if you don’t want Trump.
Virginia is full of Rinos always has been.
If Rubio manages to win the primary then it will be because of the RINO’s However the conservatives will not vote for him. In fact I will be looking for our friend Trump and he will indeed have my vote and I believe our vote.
Bring the fight on.
David Jackson
This conservative will be happy to vote for Rubio.
If he can earn my vote, he’s got it. He’ll have to outdo Cruz and Carson for it though.
Fair enough.
Granted I don’t have a long history of Steve’s record in the prognostication area but over the past couple of years I’d have to say my observation has been he is pretty close to the Typhoid Mary of political oracles in predicting election successes. He may have killed off poor Scott Walker after only one glowing article single handedly. For some the purpose of thinking about the future is not to predict it but to raise people’s hopes. Marco will be back in Miami brokering bad real estate deals and trying to improve at reconciling his credit card statements before you know it with this RVP push. Just kidding Steve, but I would advise you not to lend him any cash.
Haven’t we learned our lesson from a lightly seasoned senator as executive?
no
Since you mentioned Scott Walker, some of the folks on the list from PWC like Candland were all over the photo ops with Walker.
Slick, dishonest former real estate lobbyist with a lot of charm, unbridled ambition and an eye for the political chance. That’s what’s going to change Washington. Right.
So disappointed in Virginians.
Don’t lump as all together.
Not good enough, we have failed to educate/persuade and thus lead. Failure is no longer an acceptable option.
Virginia has to fix our own house before we try and fix the presidency. The reason so many candidates are on the ballot is because our GOP is in crappy shape. Everybody is divided or undecided.
I think we are getting slightly better, dusting off, tidying up, figuring out who and what we are. Division and undecided is fine for now, as long as everybody realizes we close ranks after the nominations.
We have much to make up for and even more to live up to.
That is the TRUTH.
Ok Steve… I am sure your bros at Bearing Drift want this guy now that Yeb is done. But Steve… here is why Rubio can go to perdition directly..
Gang of 8 Immigration Bill
This bill was the most heinous POS the Establishment and their allies at the Democrat party ever wanted to foist on the US. Now now Stevie.. you are gonna tell me about how that was yesterday and immigration isn’t everything!
Steve… you GOP(e)s are finished once Obama and the Democrats sign that fifty million person amnesty. DONE Steve. Conservatism is done, Steve. Million upon millions of chain migrated immigrants are going to vote their pocketbook and that is for entitlements. Steve.. immigration is not Japanese engineers with advanced degrees… it is low skilled, poorly educated people. They have no interest in Country Club Republicans… They really really like big government that transfers wealth to them…
Steve isn’t an establishment man. Just look at his record and the candidates he’s supported to see that.
Yes, go to the archives and read his support of that heinous Brian Schoeneman, a guy who in his replies admits that he isn’t really conservative. I guess that would be true for a lobbyist for a labor union…
These GOP establishment types try to pretend that they are conservative, but for these guys it is really just the GOP winning so they can be the ones to feed at the trough of government…
Ok, while the establishment truly are the Debbil, they often make no bones about their non-conservative inclinations (BD excepted.) They will do or claim whatever it takes to do to become or remain in power. Their driving philosophy is a bit more ‘malleable’ than ours.
So the primary threat from them is not the wearing of the sheep suit, but the actions and activities.
So conquering and vanquishing the establishment is not the win we’re looking for (else we sacrifice our principles to fill that void) — but more a detente or negotiated settlements to combat the real enemy.
Their ain’t no stranger bedfellows than whut’s in the GOP.
I agree with your negotiation and detente strategy, for now. There’s still a shred of hope the GOP can be the agent that can at least stop the country’s decline into banana republic. And Ted Cruz is the one and only candidate who will do that.
There’s a reason the leadership let Rubio rebut the SOTU speech and show off his water drinking skills. His Gang of 8 participation, his willingness to try to finesse his own base, his obvious ambition, his avoidance of directly challenging Mitch — Rubio is a man who will give them little trouble.
Brian is his friend, but Steve has openly stated that he probably wouldn’t vote for him in spite of liking him personally. Meanwhile, Steve has actively opposed establishment candidates. For example, he got into a lot of trouble for supporting Susan Stimpson over Bill Howell.
Yeah, Marco is somewhat establishment…the mere fact that he cannot handle money too well puts him at nearly total control of his money masters. But he is still better than Bush – not so much on policy, I just think he is a whole lot more electable.
No he’s not.
There is that, and the McDonnell money mad skillz
Better, more electable than Yeb — probably — but I don’t think he is most electable, and we all know that ‘more better’ is just plain bad.
The establishment’s last hope now that Jeb Bush dropped out.
Bush is still in, unfortunately.
There is always one other.
