No Green Bananas

I don’t eat green bananas. I don’t buy green bananas. I bought green bananas one time and they went from green straight to brown. So why bother? Maybe I sound like a banana snob. But I mean…do you eat green bananas? 

So I actually laughed out loud when I saw an article about New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s new city-owned grocery stores, because the associated picture showed him holding up a bunch of green bananas. He looked pretty excited. I guess he likes green bananas?

But honestly – that summed socialism up for me in two words – green bananas. Apparently that’s what you get when you have government-owned grocery stores. Yeah…I couldn’t help but think, “You’ll eat green bananas, young lady, and you’ll learn to like it!”

With socialism – whether they politely call it “democratic” or not – all roads lead to the same thing: the government ends up making all the decisions for you. Yikes. Do you really want the government in charge of grocery stores? They can’t even get the bananas right. I don’t know…maybe the banana-part of running a grocery store is the hardest part and everything else is easy…? I kind of doubt that. But maybe. 

My grocery store almost always has yellow bananas. Honestly – how do they even do that? Who knows. But I know why they do it – they work hard to make sure they have yellow bananas because people like yellow bananas and the grocery store wants you to shop at their store. And I confess that I have literally gone to a second store to get yellow bananas because the first store only had green ones. Maybe that’s just me. 

But the important point is, the store goes through all that trouble to make sure they have yellow bananas just to make us happy. I didn’t even have to ask them to. THAT is power, people!  

Why in the world would we want the government running our grocery stores?! We have food stamps to help people buy food when needed. The only thing government-run grocery stores can do is put other grocery stores out of business. And it’s downhill from there. Once the government owns all the grocery stores, there is no competition, and no incentive to keep you happy. 

And that is how socialism takes hold and sucks all of the resources and power up. The locusts swarm in and devastate the area, sucking all the life out of it, while they leave fat and happy. Socialist governments are always fat and happy. It’s just the people who have the life sucked out of them.

Capitalism gives you way more power than in socialism. Don’t let the big talk of the socialists fool you. Socialism will still have a small group of people at the top who have an outsized amount of power and money – socialists just want it to be themselves getting all the money instead of the other people. I mean – look at existing socialist governments – who has the money and power? Government leaders. Is that what we want? A bunch of fat and happy government leaders who have all the money and power while everyone else eats green bananas?

People succeed in a capitalist economy by working harder and working smarter. This includes everyone from business owners to professional athletes to medical professionals. Socialists talk big and like taking the money that other people worked hard to make. And in the end, they use that money to line their own pockets, get second homes, fly around in private jets, and buy yellow bananas. How is that better for the average person?  

Capitalism is choice. Capitalism is the power of the people. Capitalism is the system where you work hard and you make more. Capitalism is the system that makes my grocery store work hard to bring yellow bananas to the store shelves. 

I don’t eat green bananas. I don’t buy green bananas. And my grocery store manager knows that and wants to make me happy. Without even knowing me. And THAT is power, people. That’s what I’m talking about. We, the people, have the power. 

No green bananas.
