The Governor signed two bills this week that will permit any school system in the state to begin school before Labor Day. Schools will now be able to start as early as two weeks before Labor Day with a 4 day weekend for Labor Day.
The so-called Kings Dominion law has been in effect since 1986, banning school systems from opening before Labor Day. The tourist industry wanted the law because they make hundreds of millions during the last two weeks of summer.
