I suspect a few of us “Boomers” used to type the above sentence on a manual, yes, a manual typewriter not a personal computer, in typing class of a different era. Yes, there was an actual class on how to type for prospective secretaries and others destined for the clerical field or for those like me who entertained the thought of going to college someday. Mr. Charles Weller, a typing teacher, came up with the phrase and later modified it to read come to the aid of their “country”. It turns out that his change with the period made the sentence exactly 70 characters long which was the entire length of one complete line on a typewriter. Well, those days may be long gone but recent events in the Old Dominion brought this phrase of a bygone era back to mind.
The last four years we were blessed to have Governor Glenn Younkin as our Governor. As extremely successful and savvy business professional during his term he was responsible for unparalleled economic growth and prosperity in the Old Dominion. He leaves behind the legacy of an unheard budget surplus an improved primary and secondary education system among his many accomplishments. It is unfortunate but Virgina’s state constitution precludes him from serving two consecutive terms. I can only hope our loss will mean that he will serve at the national level.
Those “recent events” that brought back a memory from a distant typing class are the inauguration of our new Governor and the Democratic majority that now controls the Virginia legislature. Yes, I understand that “elections do have consequences” but Governor Youngkin did attempt to reach across the aisle and reach compromise for the good of his constituents. Unfortunately, we will never see Ms. Spanberger and her majority do the same.
With the Spanberger Administration now in power and the Democratic Party now holding a majority of both houses in Richmond, the tables have clearly turned. Yes, unfortunately elections do have consequences, and I get that but as we progress through the next four years, I suspect many in Virgina will not be happy with the Governor Spanberger’s and her Party’s stance on many issues. To wit the proposed Congressional Redistricting used to redraw Virginia’s congressional districts to produce a 10–1 Democratic majority in our congressional delegation, the Right to Life, personal protections afforded by the Second Amendment, and what is taught in our public school system to name a few. All of this is happening while the same time Democrats say their focus is “affordability” – a claim that is simply a distraction.
Republicans that sat on the sidelines during the gubernatorial election will wish they had taken a stand when they had the opportunity to vote. One of my good friends remarked that Republicans are not like those who line our highways and overpasses every Saturday morning waving signs proclaiming their “patriotism,” but what many fail to realize is that in Virgina the world has fundamentally changed – the mindset of our State Legislators is now the same as our local “No Kings” protestors. Yes, Republicans tend to shy away from direct engagement but while many of us dither and prefer not to get involved our world in the Old Dominion is fundamentally changing beneath our feet. Yes, like it or not now is the time for all good men (and women) to come to the aid of the party before it is too late.

Come to the aid of Virginia Republicans?
I don’t understand, I voted for the “gay guy & black lady” as some put it. To be candid; I genuinely thought that Reid was more masculine than the other two men running for Office and I also wholeheartedly supported Sears for Governor in spite of my disagreements with her legislative support on a particular bill for which I vehemently disagreed with.
I knew what Democrats leadership would bring against all of our other freedoms.
Perhaps the messaging was off, perhaps the loyalty to Virginia workers was absent in the four years prior.
I as with many of you have seen numerous bill come before our GA with the issue of illegal aliens but none to address the illegal employment of them.
You gotta own it to me able to make changes and move forward or just sit back and try to win next time on the Democrats failures.
America First (means the Country and her Citizens)
State and ShenCO GOP are still playing the Traditional GOP Game of we are better than the Dems. Yet overall they continue to support spending and taxing (meals tax and property tax). Voting harder is unlikely to “retake” Virginia. Trump lost by -10 and -6 in ’20 and ’24. Sears lost by 16.% The working class needed for Victory has stayed home or gone back to the Dems. We have to look at Constitutional remedies available to us. especially in the Valley where are heritage and culture do not align with NOVA.
Hi Dianne and thank you for weighing in but exactly what do you mean by “We have to look at Constitutional remedies available to us” Thanks, Ros
NB: The Colonists had no legal method to separate from England.
The first three sections of the constitution emphasize the sovereignty of the people and inalienable right of a community to alter a government that is inadequate or contrary to common benefit, protection, and security.
The options under discussion (there are many more) are
Convention of States. Presently 20 states have passed the Resolution calling for a convention; 7 passed in one chamber; 5 have passed out of committee. 35 state resolutions are required to call a convention. Follow “Convention of States” on FB. The ShenCO group meets every 2nd Tuesday in Woodstock.
ReAnnex Arlington to DC as originally platted. This was illegally done in 1843 to continue the slave trade. See Shenandoah GOP Freedom Caucus FB page for more details.
For Valley Virginians see the VEXIT FB page. West Virginia has invited Valley Counties to annex back to the original Virginia. Lower taxes, school choice, robust Federal representation are some of the many benefits.
Elsewhere in the Nation rural counties are working to separate from:

San Francisco and LA – Follow New California State on FB
Seattle – Follow Restore Washington on FB
Portland -Follow Oregonians for Oregon on FB
Ottawa – Follow Alberta Independence on FB (we could trade them for Minnesota).
Got it and thank you !
So far in 2026, ICE has murdered NINE PEOPLE. Let’s see — 2026 is 26 days old. That’s roughly one person killed by ICE every third day. With 365 days in the year, that’s about 122 people that ICE will kill this year. By comparison, New York City records fewer than 20 police killings annually.
Nice try numbnuts. Here’s the facts: “A tabulation cited by the Mirror and amplified in multiple outlets reports that out of roughly 26 shootings involving ICE and Customs and Border Protection since the start of President Trump’s second term in January 2025, six incidents resulted in deaths.” Each of those shootings were good shoots in that officers were responding to imminent danger of their own deaths.. It’s sad that people like you have to learn the hard way not to FGAFO with the police.. We all know that you, despite the numerous false identities you post with, hate Trump and are willing to lie to troll the rest of us. Won’t work. We’re on to you.
We lost the election for two main reasons Both the result of stupidity . One, many Virginians are still incapable of voting for a black woman; and two, these same people openly declared that they would not vote for a homosexual under any circumstances. So they either stayed home or voted down ballot leaving Winsome and John’s tabs empty. It was stupid then and now we all pay the price for that stupidity.
I was accosted at a grocery store by a leftist nut cases. I happened to be talking to a guy wearing a MAGA cap. We were talking about the death of a mutual friend when this stranger, an elderly leftist woman, decided she had a right to harass us. This is what all republicans face, and we need to be on offense or we will end up something like Charlie Kirk. They think that violence is their right because they are just. Be aware.
Who is this “Charlie Kirk” person you all seem to worship?
