Once the votes were counted in the 5th district Republican primary between Congressman Bob Good and state senator John McGuire, the incumbent lost by 374 votes, .06% of the vote. The commonwealth will pay for a recount if the vote margin is less than .05% of the vote so Good will have to pay for it. Rep. Good has said he wants a recount, but can he afford it?
The deadline for filing for a recount is July 12th, this Friday. Some are asking, if Good has the money, why hasn’t he filed?
According to this article some are questioning if Good can afford to pay for recount although there are no estimates of how much will cost. However, with a total of 25 voting precincts in the district, a recount will be expensive.
But his campaign manager said,
“We have money for a recount,” Good’s campaign manager Diana Shores told The Daily Progress. “We will petition the state in the timeline required by the law.”
