The Bull Elephant has reported extensively on the slating that took place in Campbell County. As you will recall, this slating was achieved with the expert assistance of GOP 1st Vice Chairman, Mike Thomas, and with the help of Democrat voters. The results were appalling, with anti-Republican candidates winning office and loyal, dedicated Republicans being disenfranchised from party elections.
You already know that the slating that took place at the Campbell County Mass Meeting forcibly removed Republicans from participating as members of their local Republican unit, in the upcoming 5th District GOP Convention, AND the statewide GOP convention. They stripped over a hundred Republicans from participating in any and all Republican elections this year. But the sadistic actions of these people did not end there. Oh no, it gets worse…
Mark Lloyd is the conservative candidate running for 5th District GOP Chairman against Congressman Robert Hurt’s hand-chosen candidate. The slating prevents Mark Lloyd from attending and voting as a delegate in his own election! So now we have slating of voters and candidates. What’s next, slating elections themselves so the Establishment can remove all threat of challenges?
Mark Lloyd told The Bull Elephant,
The intensity of the hateful spite is really what surprises me most. I am a candidate for fifth district chair. I would have thought I might have been left on the list even though they removed all my delegates; including my wife. They actually assumed she would support me in all this mess. These are the same folks that scream demands for unity. Are we dealing with adults, or spoiled juveniles? I do wonder.
Fortunately, conservatives are fighting back and have filed an appeal that is strong on the merits. They have provided extensive documentation that clearly verifies through the voter rolls that, indeed, scores of Democrats participated at the Campbell County Mass Meeting. Furthermore, they have a mountain of evidence that demonstrates that the newly elected GOP leadership dedicated the last few years actively working against the Republican Party by supporting opposition candidates against our Republican candidates.
The appeal was filed with the local Campbell County GOP unit 30 days ago and, shockingly, no response has been given. According to the Republican Party Plan, a local GOP unit has two weeks to review the appeal and render a decision. They are clearly well past the deadline and thumbing their nose at the process. What did that article say, again, that Mike Thomas wrote? Something about cheating not being right?
It appears that the new tactic by the Ray Allen/Mike Thomas/Eric Cantor crowd is to ignore the appeals and hopefully drag it out past the upcoming GOP district conventions so that their slating can have its intended effect. They don’t want to meet the same fate as they did in the 2nd District GOP Convention, where slating was overturned and their candidate was defeated.
Starting tomorrow the 5th District Committee may take up the appeal and consider it. They have two weeks to review and render their decision. The two weeks ironically expires on the day of the 5th District GOP Convention. Bill Stanley is the current 5th District Chairman, as well as a state senator. He previously issued a public condemnation of slating, which I was happy to read. It will be interesting to see if he stays true to his convictions or caves to the pressure of the ‘big boys’, especially since everyone knows he has aspirations for higher office. Stanley is a lawyer who has made a career out of protecting the rule of law, so I trust his committee will deliver a fair and judicious ruling.
Now, you can’t overturn slating just because you don’t like it. That is not how it works. A case must be made that slating was achieved using improper methods. Bill Stanley knows that and so do the rest of us. But if I have ever seen a stronger case for an appeal for slating to be overturned, this is the one. It doesn’t get much clearer than this and the conservatives have the evidence to back up their claims.
Will Republicans be reinstated as members of the local GOP committee? Will they be able to vote in the upcoming 5th district and statewide convention elections? Will the candidate, Mark Lloyd, be allowed to vote in his own election? Will justice prevail? We will report developments as they happen…

Mark Lloyd is an overall good guy. He’d be acceptable but his problem is that he’s backed by the rest of the Lynchburg tea party. Just like most “tea party”groups, they’ve accomplished absolutely nothing and this one has some real government conspiracy nutballs out there.
Plus you can’t be politically naive here. Whoever your district’s congressman wants to be in the organization will be there.
What has the current republican representation accomplished?
Danny Marshall. Les Adams. Charles Poindexter. Bill Stanley. Robert Hurt.
It all starts local. Here in Danville, the local tea party could have put a lot of muscle into Tuesday’s city council election. They didn’t do a thing.
this is beyond the question of slating—why does Cong Hurt want someone other than Mark Lloyd?
Most likely because Mark Lloyd didn’t support him after the primary and even made the comment in Danville Va that he would vote for a Democrat before he would ever vote for Robert Hurt after he was elected in 2010. Robert Hurt is the most conservative Congressman in Virginia. Maybe all the people that heard him say this will come forward and call him out on it. Hey Bill Stanley was in the room and heard him. Mark Lloyd nor the 3 chairman that have been in Campbell County since the 2012 mm have supported or lifted one finger to help Robert Hurt. Please ask Robert Hurt about the real facts. Mark Lloyd has caused most of the division we now have in the fifth district. Even bragged that he wasn’t a Republican he was Tea Party along with bragging about throwing out 11 County Chairman. I understand why Robert Hurt wouldn’t want Mark Lloyd as Chairman and if he doesn’t want him then I don’t either.
since posing the question, several people have given me the same answer. wow.
Interesting that none of the current members of the “Campbell County
Republican Party” have offered any answer to all the coverage of their
tactics. John “Slater” Ferguson has had ample opportunity to justify
and explain why he sought and imported so many die-hard Democrats/known
Republican opponents and why they are all now “good Republicans.” Mike
Thomas’ only answer has been a tepid “now, now, children, no cheating
allowed,” meaning “let’s not undo the results of all the cheating done
so far, because undoing any of this would obviously qualify as
cheating.” The people who will now have charge to rule on the appeal are
other chairmen in the Fifth District. They need to take a stand and
rule that known Democrats/known opponents to Republicans are *not*
allowed to storm a Republican meeting, and any results of such a meeting
are invalid. If they do not, what is to stop this same scenario from
happening in their own county?
Another example of the RayAllen-Ed Gillespie- Eric Cantor machine at work. The Establishment is desperate to gain power from the Conservative grassroots of our party.
Sounds like the establishment republicans hate conservatives and Tea Party candidates more than they hate democrats. Is this what our party has come to? The establishment republicans won’t allow conservatives to run for office?
I don’t think the Republican Party hates you. We just want you to stick with your own political party…… the tea party. Nothing personal, just stay separate. No big deal.
Hahaha, good one!
Oh wait, were you serious? I can’t support both the republican party and the Tea Party?
Read your original comment and tell me if you are supporting the Republican Party. Just stick with the tea party.
You’re the problem by making it hyper-partisan.Your statement is a perfect example because of the word “hate”.
lol…as opposed to all the insider-types calling anyone that disagrees “extreme”, “radical”, or “nativists”. Perhaps you need to read a bit more of what’s out there.
No, not “opposed to” any of that. Inclusive of that.
Victory at any cost does not win general elections. Ray Allen, Eric Cantor and Mike Thomas knew exactly what they were doing across Virginia and are gambling that they will remove enough of their opponents to maintain their power base. I am praying they are wrong.
As one of the ones who was slated, I have no angst towards those who slated me. They were wrong, and they want to win at all costs. That is something I cannot do and will not do.
My hope and prayer is that they will step back from their current position and realize that they are escalating and driving division. In a desire every vote to be heard, I hope they will reverse course and allow all the delegates. Otherwise, we should exhaust every legal and ethical means to have our votes be counted.
