Republicans nominate most diverse field of U.S. House candidates in years

written by Guest Contributor Ken Reid June 22, 2022

Majority of 11 nominees are women or minorities

With decisions from last nights primary in Virginia, Republicans have nominated the most diverse slate of candidates for US House ever.

Indeed, five are white males, including our four incumbent House reps Rob Wittman (1st), Bob Good (5th), Ben Cline (6th), Morgan Griffith (9th).  In the 11th, Jim Myles is the GOP nominee.

But the list of new nominees is impressive in terms of women and minorities:

2nd district Sen. Jen Kiggans (I was very excited she beat back a vicious smear campaign by two of her opponents and believe she will defeat incumbent Rep. Elaine Luria in November).  Sen. Kiggans is a geriatric nurse and former Navy helicopter pilot.

3d district Terry Namkung, part Korean and part African American.

4th district The Rev. Leon Benjamin, African American minister from Richmond.

7th district Prince William Supervisor Yesli Vega (Her family is from El Salvadore AND I believe will be elected the first Latino to the US House from Virginia).

8th district Karina Lipsman, a Soviet Jewish emigree, who came to America in the 1970s from the Ukraine, raised by her single mom in a Baltimore public housing project.

10th district Capt. Hung Cao, USN (Ret.) Born in South Vietnam, came to the US as a refugee as a child, Naval Academy grad, a Navy Seal, and a career Naval intelligence officer.

Okay, my fellow Republicans, you will say who cares what skin color or sex they are?

The national media and pundits care, and thats where a number of voters get their information in a national election.  But the media only often crow about diversity when Democrats break the glass or color ceiling such as first Native American or LGBTQ elected or appointed to this office or that.

There has been little coverage outside the conservative media about Yesli Vega or Maya Flores, the Texas Republican who won a special election in the US House in a very Democratic district.

Obviously, the fact Latinos are leaving the Democratic Party in droves to vote for Republican candidates (and yes, run as Republicans) defies the Leftist narrative that our party is nativistic and anti-immigrant.  No, its the Democrats who do little for blacks, Latinos and pretty much everyone else except the radical activists and pressure groups that control their party, and the elite rich liberals who dont have to deal with bad schools, crime and inflation.

So, with this diverse field of Virginia GOP candidates, we have a lot crowing to do.     We need to help these great Republicans win big in November and send a message to Joe Biden and the Leftists that we want our country back.
