On Tuesday the Sixth District Republican passed a committee condemning the raid of President Donald J. Trump’s Mar A Lago.
“I am proud that we were able to take this action and add our voices to the millions of Americans outraged by Joe Biden and his politicized FBI pushing a frivolous investigation into President Trump. Instead of investigating the attacks on crisis pregnancy centers, Hunter Biden’s dealings with our enemies, threats against our Supreme Court Justices, and catching drug dealers who are shipping millions through a porous border; they targeted President Trump. Joe Biden: do your job, put the FBI back to work for the American people, and be prepared to be investigated.”
Resolution
Whereas, on August 8th 2022, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) conducted an unprecedented raid on President Trump’s home, Mar-a-Lago, related to the Presidential Records Act. This act established an ongoing and collegial process for the management of classified documents legally possessed by any former President, and
Whereas, former President Trump’s home is protected by the United States Secret Service (USSS) and its record and information storage is supervised by the USSS with little to no opportunity for unauthorized access, and
Whereas, members of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) staff a part of the raid on Mar-a-Lago and the Federal Judge issuing the warrant have made hostile comments about former President Trump, compromising the motivations for the raid, and
Whereas, the FBI has mishandled investigations relating to President Trump, such as the “Russia Collusion Hoax”, in the past and has not investigated other classified leakers seeking to discredit President Trump, and
Whereas FBI agents chose a time when neither President Trump nor his attorneys were able to be present for the raid on his home to ensure due process while the removal of documents occurred, and
Whereas, the FBI conducted themselves with unnecessary aggression, force, and subterfuge in their pursuit of the documents in question, seeking an escalatory response rather than following general procedure, which demonstrates the use of the FBI for political purposes rather than for just enforcement of the law,
Be It Therefore Resolved, that the Virginia Sixth District Republican Committee condemns in the strongest terms the politically-motivated raid on President Trump’s home on August 8th, 2022, and
Be It Further Resolved, that Attorney General Merrick Garland should recuse himself from this investigation into alleged misconduct and misbehavior of President Donald J. Trump and his family and associates, and
Be It Further Resolved, the Sixth Congressional District Republican Committee calls for transparency whenever the executive branch begins an investigation involving a political opponent regardless of party, to preserve the integrity of our Republic and its Constitutional foundations, and
Be It Further Resolved, that such transparency includes a bipartisan and collegial approach that oversees relevant agencies in their investigation so that the rights to due process for all involved are upheld and bureaucratic agencies do not ignore the rights of citizens in favor of political motivation. The Executive Branch is not a tool for political retribution.
Signed this ____ day of August 2022
