Yesterday Chairman of the Republican Party of Virginia John Whitbeck issued a statement in support of Republican candidate for Sully District Supervisor, John Guevara, Whitbeck said…[read_more]
“Growing the Republican Party is essential to our winning elections in Northern Virginia. John Guevara is exactly the kind of Republican we need to accomplish just that. His military and private sector experience in project management makes him uniquely qualified to serve on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. While I am not endorsing in primaries, I feel it is important for Party leaders to ensure that talented conservatives like John are encouraged to run for office. We need people like John who are willing to step up and serve their communities and I applaud him for doing so.”
Candidate Guevara responded,
“The only way we can grow our Party is to engage every community with our message of limited government and more individual freedom,” said John Guevara. “We are very excited about where we are in the campaign right now. We are moving forward very fast as the election is just next month. Those kind words from Mr. Whitbeck will certainly help to energize our team through the stretch run to Election Day.”
Anthony Bedell, former Chairman of Fairfax County Republican Committee, previous budget director of the Republican party of Virginia, and currently president of RedFive Strategies, is also lending his support to John Guevara. In his endorsement of the candidate he said,
“This was an easy endorsement for me. It is in line with my philosophy, when I was Chairman and now. It was our Fairfax leadership team’s goal to find candidates with deep ties in their community and making sure we as Republicans offered candidates with different backgrounds. The results were clearly as successful as you can be in Fairfax. The voter paradigm in Fairfax has changed even more from when I was Chairman. Republicans more than ever need to nominate candidates who can reach a wide array and diverse group of voters if we have any chance to win. Nominating John Guevara in Sully meets this standard. I think both of the other candidates are good men and good Republicans. But if we want to hold this Supervisor seat we need to nominate John Guevara so we can win Sully District in November.”
In response to Anthony’s endorsement John Guevara said,
“Our campaign is very excited to have the support of Anthony Bedell,” said John Guevara. “We are moving forward very fast right now as the election is just next month. Our team has been out knocking doors and engaging voters. My neighbors across the Sully District are ready for my conservative viewpoint like holding the line on taxes, and bringing fiscally responsible policies to the Board so that businesses come and stay in our district.”
It’s easy to understand why these Republican leaders support John Guevara. He is well acquainted with Sully, having in the district for 16 years. He works as a manager for a large telecommunications company, is a Veteran, has twice served on the board of Navy Elementary PTO, has been a Little League Coach and a Cub Scout den leader. John Guevara is also Vice President of the Board for the Western Fairfax Christian Ministries, a non profit group established to help families facing emergency needs for food and financial assistance. When announcing his candidacy he said,
“I have often wondered how it is possible that we live in such a prosperous district yet have a significant number of families who are struggling to make ends meet,” said Guevara. “How can we have a $2.5 billion school budget and yet have overcrowding in more than 30% of our elementary schools? Or, how can we spend billions of dollars on mass transit only to continue to sit in traffic day after day after day? We have to address these and other pressing issues but we have to do it with smarter, no-nonsense management. Throwing different people with the same ideas at these problems is political insanity. I am a first-generation Hispanic American who has earned the American Dream. Growing-up in near-poverty, I learned the importance of sacrifice and the value of working hard, which I applied to my education and to my careers in IT and the U.S. Army. We need a new face, a person who has management, business, and people skills to tackle these local issues that affect our families. I am that candidate.”
The nomination for the Republican Candidate in Sully District will be decided in a firehouse primary on April 25th, from 10am to 3pm at Westfield High School located at 4700 Stonecroft Blvd. Chantilly, VA 20151.

More on John Guevara here.

Jeanine, have some of those running for Fairfax BOS stated that they want a transparent campaign?
If this is true, then why does it seem that there may be those who post comments regularly on Blogs using Disqus, and apparently keep their past comments private?
Why not open up these past comments to the public so that the people in Fairfax can see just what they may be getting into? What are they hiding?
Am I correct about this? If so, just where is this transparency?
Or, am I mistaken? Please let me know.
Thanks
Word on the street is that Bedell is Guevara’s GC. Sounds like a bought and paid for endorsement brought to you courtesy of the “Virginia Way”. Seems ironic coming from the group that is constantly complaining about it. But then again, the people that have yet to win a state-wide election since taking control on SCC have a history of this. http://jhpolitics.com/2014/03/virginia-wasinger-touts-endorsement-of-his-own-campaign-manager/

I appreciate that the chairman is getting involved in party primaries.
Thanks for unifying the party John Whitbeck!!

And the point being what? Mullins should have stayed out of the primary.
Wrong + Wrong = Right!
no … the point is they celebrate a chairman’s interference when its for one of their favorites, but when it’s against their colleague suddenly we are deeply concerned about the future and how Whitback can blah blah blah.
Hey who remembers this?
http://bearingdrift.com/2015/03/11/when-endorsements-go-right/
Seems odd that you’d remind everybody that Barbara Comstock endorsed the candidate you fervently oppose.
“Statement of support” Spiker. I hear BS is losing his mind over it, too, about Whitbeck. Why is he so mad, Barbara did the same thing for him.
But I was more speaking about “After all, Schoeneman is objectively pulling away in Sully.”
If you heard it, it’s probably right!
Not sure why you think an endorsement from Bedell is any more or less impressive than an endorsement from Comstock. Candidates get endorsements. This is a standard development (unless you’re Jeanine Martin, in which case its an unprecedented scandal and evidence of an Illuminati-backed power grab)
Very funny. I literally (and I do mean literally) laughed out loud when I read that. One minor point, you forgot a period at the end of your last sentence. I knew you wouldn’t such a blatant grammatical error to just hang there. You’re always such a stickler for grammar, always correcting mine. Happy to return the favor.
Why would you laugh out loud, literally? Spiker wasn’t being facetious. To Stephen’s point, there’s no real story here. BS gets endorsements, JG gets endorsements. I wonder who Frey will endorse?
I enjoy laughing. Don’t you? Never mind, rhetorical question. The answer is obvious. If you ever smiled your face would crack.
Since John Frey and Tom Davis put Brian forward for Sully one would expect they would endorse him. Or are they now too embarrassed to do that? Because their boy is going down in flames and no one would care about either of their endorsements?
How is BS going down in flames? What exactly is on fire? Or is this more of your hyperbole?
I’m talking about the endorsement of Michael Frey, the soon to be former Supervisor.
Me too, typo, I meant Mike Frey. Mike, Pat, and Tom Davis chose Brian. They were so excited back before Christmas, so sure they could move Brian into Sully district and anoint him the nominee. It didn’t quite work out that way. How foolish of them to think that no one would run against Brian. How foolish of them to think that people actually like Brian. They should have done their homework and talked to even a few people on the ground before making their decision. Ditto Barbara Comstock. She was foolish to believe what those three told her.
Honest question that you will ignore completely: what makes you think you know what goes on in the minds of other people?
You have literally zero insight into any of the decisions made by any of the people you mentioned. You don’t know them, you don’t talk to them, you haven’t spoken to them, and they don’t speak to you. You couldn’t be farther removed from Mike Frey, Pat Herrity, Tom Davis, Brian Schoeneman, or Barbara Comstock if you moved to Slovenia.
Yet you’re going to sit there and pretend you know what they thought and when they thought it? That’s why you’re such a joke.
I know what they SAID. Period. Sorry that you don’t like the facts but I KNOW this was decided in December, if not earlier. One of those people has a very big mouth and he loves to blurt out the truth. It happened. In December. You’ll just have to get over it.
This is what gets you into trouble, Jeanine, and why you have no credibility (and bring down the credibility of the entire blog along with it). You hear something second- or third-hand, you fill in the rest–either inventing it wholesale or hear it from someone who shares your agenda and wants to see it online–and you spin this delusion based on lies and hearsay.
Just stick to things that can be reported. Someone said something to you? Post that, along with your source. But you won’t, because you can’t, which is why you never have and never will. And that’s why you’re a joke.
Unless your next comment is a direct quote from someone, you might as well not post anything, because I will not respond with anything other than “stick to the facts, you liar.”
Stephen, I can vouch for the source of Jeanine’s information from December. I have not spoken to sources on the other side of the discussion, but can verify that what Jeanine says in the above comment is true. I cannot speak to subsequent events or accusations, but it is true that a source among those people said what Jeanine reports they said in Decrmber.
And you are relevant how, exactly?
Self appointed would be my suggestion like most anonymous trolls.
Savi’s comment was vile and deleted.
For the record, that was probably someone impersonating me. Because what I write might be cantankerous and acidic but certainly nothing vile.
It was you and it was vile. Do it again and you will be gone. Keep it decent and you are fine.
It wasn’t me. But your threat is duly noted. Be advised evading any “ban” you put into place would be trivial. Let’s not pretend you have superpowers.
It was you. Same name and same IP. Here, I do possess superpowers. You are skating on very thin ice. Oh and btw, you’re not fooling anyone. Ask around, everyone knows who you are.
I will state again: you have +no+ idea who I am. There is not a single person here that knows who I am, not even the persons I defend. Period.
Keep up the sleuthing, it’s a dead end.
Nice try, except it isn’t. If you really weren’t involved in this race, you wouldn’t be trying so hard. It’s rather obvious you care WAAAAY too much for an unbiased outsider.
Steve, you know I respect you, and you’ve made the right call staying out of this mess so far. Here’s the issue with saying something as broad as “I can verify what Jeanine says is true”: I was also at the Advance, and I know what was being said, and I know that Jeanine is lying. Not 100%, but pretty close.
THINGS JEANINE HAS SAID THAT ARE TRUE:
1) Brian, as early as December, told people he would run for Sully District (he had not yet moved but had been in the process of moving to the area for several months) if Mike Frey announced his retirement.
That’s it. That’s the same thing that you and I heard in December. Jeanine is right about that much.
THINGS JEANINE HAS SAID THAT ARE NOT TRUE:
1) Anybody other than Brian Schoeneman made the decision for Brian to run.
2) Brian moved to Sully District for the purpose of running for Supervisor.
3) Brian thought he would clear the field if he entered the race.
4) Pat Herrity (and others) thought his support for Brian would clear the field.
5) Brian (and others) were unaware of the small handful of detractors who live in Sully (and mostly elsewhere) who would not react positively to his campaign.
6) Brian (and others) did not speak to anybody “on the ground” in Sully before Brian decided to run for the seat.
7) Barbara Comstock was told that no one else was in the race or getting in when she endorsed Brian.
That’s seven falsehoods, just in one simple comment! All spun out of one true fact that you can back up, that Brian was considering a run back in December.
And that’s not even counting the other lies Jeanine has spread since then, including Brian not owning his own home, Brian supporting Hillary Clinton in 2016, Brian not being a Republican, Herrity’s endorsement being something scandalous, Herrity’s ironclad control of FCRC, etc.
So Steve, I appreciate you weighing in but I think Jeanine has a lot to answer for, and given her horrendous track record, I think people need to see how utterly incapable she is of answering for any of the lies I’ve pointed out above.
I’m not getting into the weeds on this, both because I like Brian and because Jeanine can handle herself. I’m only speaking to the veracity of the comment above, which has animated much of Jeanine’s writing on this topic. And it wasn’t at the Advance.
All of that is not true. You were obviously not in the loop back in fall. You have some friends (acquaintances) who love to be in the know who love to share what they know. What I have said about this subject is factual. Just because you weren’t aware of what was happening does not mean it wasn’t happening.
I know for a fact that those seven falsehoods you wrote are wrong. Unless you have something more specific than “I’m rubber and you’re glue”…?
More to the point, I actually speak to and interact directly with the people who’s inner thoughts you claim to know. You speak to and interact directly with the sphere of people who are opposed to Schoeneman’s candidacy. What are the sheer odds that you’re not spinning half-truths and lying to suit your desire? You’ve already made it abundantly clear how much you despise Brian, which goes a long way in explaining the ridiculous amount of coverage you’ve given this race.
Of course we all remember your post on Mason Conservative where you embarrassed yourself trying to frame Comstock’s endorsement of BS as anything but an endorsement!
What is Whitbeck doing? It is like he wants to be out of a job! The sitting Chairman of a state party that is currently in shambles (and that is being generous as to its current condition) should not be going around and speaking about any candidate in a primary/convention process. We need a someone to unite us, not stoke the intra-party feud.
Well, apparently, Whitbeck doesn’t want a clown to be our nominee. Good for him!
Evidently, Whitbeck has had a stellar month, and added substantial money to our treasury. He’s just come out of the gate at the RPV. At his current pace, he’ll be fine, just as he was in the 10th.
If you really want to identify the problems that put the RPV in jeopardy, watch the exit door.
So, so true especially that last sentence!
Roger that Monk! Well written!
