It was a long day full of excitement at the 10th District Convention here in Ashburn on Saturday. Nearly 900 Republicans came out to show their support not just for their candidates on the ballot, but their determination to win the 10th District and the White House for the Republican party in November.
The spotlight on the presidential campaign brought out more media from more sources than probably any previous 10th District convention. Aside from the usual suspects of the Washington Post, Loudoun Times-Mirror, and the regional television affiliates, we also had reporters for the National Journal, Real Clear Politics, and a host of other outlets. I was personally interviewed by someone with FiveThirtyEight.com.
Both the Trump campaign and the Cruz campaign were well organized and out in force, passing out lapel stickers and sample ballots for their slates. The energy of the two campaigns was electric inside the convention hall as speeches by the Trump and Cruz endorsed candidates for National Delegate were met with competing cheers.
When all the votes for National Delegate were counted, the Cruz team had won the day, with our four endorsed candidates taking the top four spots in the balloting. I was honored to come in second behind Senator Black and win one of the voting delegate slots for the Republican National Convention in Cleveland this July.
I want to thank everyone who came out and supported my campaign. I am both honored and humbled by your support. I also want to thank the other members of the Cruz slate (Senator Dick Black, Beau Correll, and Blaine Dunn) for all their hard work. This was a team effort that could not have succeeded without everyone working together.
Finally, I want to thank my wife, Michelle, for her tireless efforts at organizing our campaign, as well as her endless patience and understanding.
This July I will head to Cleveland and do my part to represent the 10th District of Virginia and help to nominate the next President of the United States.
Thank you all again for your support.
