Earlier this week, it was reported that Opequon District School Board candidate Delane Karalow had objected to 2 books at the Samuels Public Library in Front Royal. I would like to take this time to publicly thank Delane Karalow for having the intestinal fortitude (spell that G U T S) to take on the radical leftists who are trying to destroy our schools from within.
In her statement, Ms. Karalow said and I quote:
“I’m for academic rigor, and these books do nothing to reinforce academic rigor in schools. As a matter of fact, they go against it. We’re having discipline and behavioral issues with students in schools to the point where they’re trying to hire more behavioral specialists. And having books in the schools that hyper-sexualize students, and particularly when it’s done without the parents’ knowledge, and parents don’t know that these books are in the schools, it’s a concern.”
Ms. Karalow has also taken up a mantra raised by myself and thousands of others regarding obscenities being allowed in school libraries. Delane has called for the repeal of VA Code Section 18.2-383 (1), the “school library exception to obscenities being shown to our kids”. The fact that it is legal for school libraries to show sexually suggestive material to our young minds is despicable on its face. Contrary to what a rather loud minority would want you to think, the fact is that the average parent does not want porn or sexually suggestive materials in their children’s schools or children’s sections of public libraries.
Those who oppose Delane say that she’s a “book banner” in the same way that fascists are. Most of us would agree that people like Ms. Karalow are not book banners, but do understand that young minds are incapable of discernment, and thus need to be protected from smut until legal age.
In a time where we have so many moral ambiguities, it is refreshing to see a person run for office who has such a great moral character, and is able to show the courage of their convictions. Thank you Delane Karalow for attempting to stand up for our children. I wholeheartedly endorse Ms. Karalow for School Board, Frederick County Opequon District, and hope that each of you who live in Opequon will consider a vote for Delane – remember early voting starts on September 22.
