On November 22nd, 2022 at the Virginia Civil Rights Monument in Capitol Square former State Senator and United States Representative Tom Garrett formerly announced his run for the House of Delegates in the 56th district which since the redistricting throughout the Commonwealth now covers the following counties:
Appomattox
Buckingham
Cumberland
Fluvanna (partial)
Goochland (partial)
Louisa (partial)
Prince Edward (partial)
Tom served in the Senate of Virginia representing the 22nd district from 2012-2017 as well as serving the 5th Congressional district in the United States House of Representatives from 2017-2019 serving one term, he chose to not seek re-election due to his battle with alcoholism which he now has been sober for over four years and since then he has been working on a documentary series titled “Exile” and now a great conservative comeback in his campaign to represent the 56th House district.
I had the honor to meet Tom back in August of last year at one of our Appomattox GOP meetings where he came and spoke before the committee, this was just a few months before he announced his candidacy for the House of Delegates. What started out as a traditional introduction, him signing a couple of autographs for me (as collecting political autographs is a personal hobby of mine) and even getting a photo op with him ended up in a conversation about our faith and what God has done for us in our lives. Since then Tom has become a great friend and to have him run for office in my district is a blessing indeed. If you ever got to meet Tom and hear his powerful testimony then you will know what I am talking about.
Tom is the best choice and is the best candidate to represent the 56th district as he has a voting record in both the Senate of Virginia and the United States House of Representatives that speaks volumes of his character and proves that he is a doer and that’s who we need representing us in Richmond, a doer and when Tom says he will do something you can count on him to get the job done. Tom believes that life begins at conception, he supports constitutional carry, he will fight for election integrity and he is a strong advocate for parental rights, don’t take my word for it do the research and you will see the proof that Tom is not just a doer but a conservative champion that has the backbone to stand up for what is right and be a voice for his constituents.
To date Tom has been endorsed by Congressman Bob Good, former Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, Delegate Nick Freitas and myself included and his support is getting stronger as each day passes. The nomination process will be determined by a convention which will be held on May 20th at the Cumberland High School and I encourage all republicans who live in the 56th district to sign up to be a delegate and to vote for Tom Garrett to be our nominee onward to a victory in November when we not only retain control of the House but gain control of the Senate and get the work done that is long overdue.
Deadlines to sign up to be a delegate are approaching quickly so don’t wait. To sign up get in touch with Tom’s campaign or with the GOP unit of the county in which you live.
Well done is better than well said. – Tom Garrett
