As a member of the United States Navy and subsequently as a Department of the Navy Civil Servant I spent much of my career starting in the early 1970s in Southern California which was a virtual paradise – the best public schools in the nation, superlative public services, and a pristine landscape unmarred by the encampments of “newcomers” and homeless camps that now mar the landscape. Although there was a strong presence of the Democratic Party in the urban centers of the north Ronald Regan was the state’s governor from 1967-1975 where he put into the practice the principles embodied in the Republican Creed of Virgina, e.g., fiscal responsibility, Constitutional limitations, and the free enterprise system. The “Golden State” truly was gold.
Over my forty-year career which vacillated between San Diego and Washington D.C. it was obvious that the aura of that magic land was fast diminishing – the quality of schools and public service declined, the interests of special interest groups were placed above those of the general population, and once vibrant economy stagnated – in short California that once was the envy of the nation was no more. What was the cause of this dramatic decline? Easy, the rise of the Democratic Party and its inability to govern and its catering to special interest groups. While California Democrats were focused on minutia the state as a whole continued to decline to the sorry state of where it is today.
Unfortunately, this same pattern has been repeated systematically across the nation. Many of our cities that were once a testament to American exceptionalism are now such as state of decay that they barely function and provide basic services to their residents. In rural America, the North American Free Trade Agreement orchestrated by the Clinton Administration has off shored many once solid American industries such as textiles and manufacturing and placed many rural residents below the poverty line and solely dependent on government assistance to make it from one day to the next. LBJ’s “Great Society” which has been perpetuated by the Democratic Party has now left generations of Americans in an endless cycle of poverty and despair so that many assume their existence is in fact the ”normal” way of life.
This November the Commonwealth of Virginia will face the fork in the road much like California faced years ago. The right to life, school choice, the Second Amendment among others that many Virginians take for granted may be no more and once they are gone like my experience in California they will NEVER return. Luckily the common sense and veto power of Governor Glenn Youngkin has prevented Virginia from proceeding down a path from which it will never return. I fear if Virginia goes “blue” under a radical administration of Ms. Spanberger much like my beloved California, Virginia will become yet another paradise lost never to return to its former glory. We simply cannot let that happen to the state we call home.

100% spot on Ros!
“The right to life” womens choice. Did you read about all the maternal deaths going on now in Mississipp?
” school choice” Go to any damn school you want but I don’t wanna pay for it.
” the Second Amendment” Unless the NRA, the spineless Congress and the corrupt scotus decide to act, the rivers of blood will continue to be on your hands. Winsome even opposes red flag laws. Stupid bitch
You should be happy she opposes Red Flag laws because your litany of acrimonious posts clearly indicate a severe mental problem. You yourself should be Red Flagged. In all seriousness, you should seek counseling. Your anger is borderline insanity.
shut up, David. Law Enforcement agrees that red flag laws save lives. Conversely, the lack of such laws result in preventable deaths
What a load of crap.
At bedtime, do you check under your bed and in the closet for monsters??
is that reply to me? Are you actually trying to say something?
In no way are these words below in defense of Bill Clinton or any Democrat for that matter.
NAFTA had an extremely detrimental effect on my family and community in SWVA.
While President George H. W. Bush negotiated and signed the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) in 1992, it was President Bill Clinton who signed the NAFTA Implementation Act, allowing the agreement to go into effect in January 1994. The agreement itself was a bipartisan effort, with its roots in a vision first proposed by Ronald Reagan.
Timeline of Events
1. Ronald Reagan:
Reagan first proposed the idea of a free trade agreement with Mexico during his 1980 presidential campaign, laying the groundwork for future agreements.
2. George H. W. Bush:
As president, Bush negotiated and signed the NAFTA agreement in December 1992 with Canada and Mexico.
3. Bill Clinton:
After the agreement was approved by Congress, President Clinton signed the NAFTA Implementation Act into law on December 8, 1993, which officially brought NAFTA into effect on January 1, 1994.
Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin has consistently stated a commitment to teaching “all of our history—the good and the bad”
James,
C’mon man please don’t be the precursor to us repeating the traitor history of NAFTA.
I appreciate your honest timeline
Honest?,
Let’s have some more;
Why didn’t those complicit Democrats McAuliffe and Herring do something about the vast amount of illegal aliens conducting illegal commerce as independent contractors?
You know those two’s loyalty to illegal aliens allowed “the Marine” to vote for SB121 and now illegal aliens are all over Virginia conducting illegal commerce via the sanctuary employment this bill afforded them.
Yes the honesty is that Virginia Republicans & Democrats are cut from the same cloth of disloyalty to the American working class families and I unlike you have the testicular fortitude to call them all out on it.
“Why didn’t those complicit Democrats McAuliffe and Herring do something about the vast amount of illegal aliens conducting illegal commerce as independent contractors?” I don’t know. I do know I am in favor of every single employer who hires one should spend a month in jail.
Spot on Michael ! It is indeed our only hope
Amen. If Spanberger and her fellow Travelers win the entire government then the state will be lost for a generation or more. That is why I’m always posting that we need to campaign hard for Winsome, John and Jason. It’s our only hope.
With the exception of providing services to inmates, I disagree with every single one of her priorities. She even opposes red flag laws. So stupid
