Thoughts on January 6th

The most dangerous individual  seen during the “Insurrection” was a grandmotherly woman with a smile on her face.  She was in the Capitol and carried a small American flag and cup  of water.  Why was she so dangerous, you might ask?  Well, she blew up the violent insurrection narrative being created for public consumption by the Democrat Party.  (Her picture and the other 44,000 minutes of video could not be allowed to be seen.  And It is only thanks to the new  Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, that we are now getting a much fuller picture of events.)

There are similarities with the Charlottesville riots a few years earlier.  It seemed that the Democrats in charge of the Congress had created the perfect storm conditions by minimizing security and allowing provocateurs easy access to whip up the crowd.  Trump, of course, by calling for a rally against the election steal was the perfect fall guy and all the adverse consequences could be blamed on him.  Nancy Pelosi, along with her supporting cast of police and government agencies, obliged him. (If you stop and think about it, if everyone in the hundred thousand plus crowd that day had decided to destroy the Capitol, they could have done so with their bare hand.)

Who actually started the melee and why?  Why did some police escalate and some de-escalate?  Someone had to start this based on some trigger – or was it just like with Kent State where confusion and troops not trained for riot control started shooting.  There certainly was frenzied and violent interaction, but this was not a majority of the action by the crowd.  Most entered open doors, walked around often escorted by the police, and then left – they had peacefully protested and that was quite enough for them.  (The most recent video evidence has the police firing first without warning.  This would certainly incite an already angry crowd or be a signal for strategically placed provocateurs to start the rioting.) 

Most of the damage done seemed to come from the outside when the windows were broken and doors were breeched.  Almost nothing of significance was damaged inside and I got the impression that the people who entered that day tried to take care of the Capitol’s historically significance items. ( I also wondered how two x fours showed up in appropriate places just to break the supposedly post 9/11 bomb proofed windows – and who knew which windows had not yet been bomb proofed?)

The J6 Committee was confirmed as nothing more than a Democrat stage to push the insurrection narrative.  They cherry picked the most violent images and painted everyone who entered the Capitol that day with the insurrectionist brush.  This distortion is worth of censure and removal from the Congress.  (You have to wonder why the previous Speaker of the House, Kevin McCarthy, withheld the video after promising full disclosure.  Did he know the truth here and didn’t want it to get out to the public for some unknown reason?  He shamed himself by playing politics rather than trusting the American people.)

The arrested, jailed, tried, coerced, convicted, sentenced and imprisoned j6 protestors have been mistreated by the American government who is sworn to serve.  Even the most violent of them did  very little serious damage to the Capitol or the security who they fought with.  (The government’s violation of due process and right to a speedy trial is akin to the how the British treated American prisoners at the time of the Revolution.  The HMS Jersey prison ship was a horror and upwards 11,700 Continental soldiers died during captivity.  Those who survived to tell the story seldom recovered.) 

There, of course, is more to come and, I expect more interesting twists and turns in this saga.  But this is a sordid story of a government gone rogue and drunk on power.  Something the American founders very much feared from an ever more powerful political class.
