On Tuesday the Board of Visitors of the University  of Virginia voted to extend the contract of President Teresa Sullivan until 2017 with a possible extension until 2019.  In addition they gave her a $15,000 raise for this fiscal year and another $25,000 next year to add to her salary of $647,000.  Story here.Â

What a joke.
A three-year contract extension that includes a language revision clause allowing for a two year opt out as early as fall 2017 if the governing board chooses a successor doesn’t exactly sound like a ringing vote of endorsement to me. Sounds more like a probation, incorporating a transition statement, while they proceed with a candidate replacement search in background mode. Regradless given her continued tenure you can expect further “incidents” to arise at UVA in my opinion.
