Virginia is lost. Perhaps for years, perhaps for decades, perhaps — from the standpoint of the kind of Commonwealth I and many others would like to see — forever. There seems to be no grounds for believing that the sort of ideology the Left has adopted to the great electoral success it has seen in Virginia, contains the seeds of its own political destruction.
We have no guarantee that the message of economic liberty, constitutional government, and individual freedom will ever be successfully championed in Virginia again.
But that does not excuse us from the fight any more than it excuses us from throwing in the towel before it even begins. If Nick Freitas had been our senatorial nominee, we wouldn’t have defeated Tim Kaine, it is true, but we absolutely would have seen Dave Brat and Scott Taylor hold on to their seats.
Instead, our party chose to hand Tim Kaine a 15-point landslide and give the Democrats two free congressional seats in June. We committed electoral suicide 5 months ago and Virginia voters just found the body tonight.
That’s not a hot take. It’s a fact.
Forgive me for being bitter, but this is the biggest self-inflicted political wound I’ve ever seen.
I’m not mad. I’m not sad. I’m tired.
