We know two democrats who are running for the seat vacated by Jennifer Wexton in the 10th district. Board of Supervisors chair, Phyllis Randle, has long been rumored to have her eye on the seat. Shortly after Wexton’s announcement that she would not run again due to health reasons, Randle reserved this website, PhyllisRandallforCongress.com. Good hint that she’s in.
Former Speaker of the House of Delegates, Eileen Filler-Corn, announced earlier this week that she will run for the seat despite living in Springfield, which is not in the 10th district. But that little detail has never derailed a democrat.
Today the word is Mark Herring, former Attorney General, is looking into running for the seat and he does live in the 10th district.
Republican Gary Katz is Randle’s opponent this year in a run for Chairman of the Board. When learning of Phyllis’ website registration, Katz said,
“So, it’s at best highly opportunistic. It’s at worst heartless,” Katz said of Randall’s timing in possibly registering a campaign website. “People deserve to know the answer: is Chair Randall looking to serve for another four-year term [on the board of supervisors] or is she running for Congress?”
Good question.
Loudoun Supervisor Juli Briskman is reported to be considering a run for Congress. Her only claim to fame is giving the President Trump’s motorcade the middle finger. Impressive.
Other Democrats who may run:
- Jennifer Boysko, Virginia State Senator
- Suhas Subramanyam, Virginia Delegate
- Elizabeth Guzman, Virginia Delegate
- David Reid, Virginia Delegate
- Dan Helmer, Virginia Delegate
Only one Republican has announced a run for Congress, Mike Clancy.
Other Republicans who may be considering a run are:
- Jill Vogel, Virginia State Senator
- Aliscia Andrews, Virginia Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security
- Caleb Kershner, Loudoun County Supervisor
- Caleb Max, small business owner and farmer
