How many of you want to spend $500,000 of your tax dollars on a new study for a stadium for the Commanders football team? Raise your hand if you want the stadium in your county, tieing up traffic for miles on Sundays during football season.
I don’t see many taxpayers wanting a stadium in their backyards and yet that’s exactly what Governor Youngkin is proposing in his new budget that he has sent to the General Assembly.
The good news is a stadium in Virginia is very unlikely as the Commanders are owned by Daniel Snyder and he doesn’t want a stadium here. However, he’s talking about selling the team in the near future and that could change where the stadium will be built.
From the Richmond Times-Dispatch:
“Youngkin’s budget calls for “the Secretary of Finance to develop relevant capabilities, conduct planning, and evaluate potential economic incentives related to the relocation of the Washington Commanders to the Commonwealth of Virginia,” adding that any package of incentives “shall be developed in the best interest of Virginia taxpayers.”
How is spending $500,000 of taxpayers’ money in our best interests?
