In last night’s pre-season game against the Pittsburgh Steelers Redskins’ backup quarterback Kirk Cousins was injured. The extent of Cousins’ injury is not known at this time but it appears to be a sprained foot. However it does not appear to be a serious injury. Third string quarterback Rex Grossman will now assume quarterback duties for the team. Last night Grossman entered the game at the beginning of the 2nd quarter and completed 10 of 16 passes for total of 133 yards. Unfortunately, he also threw an interception.
RGIII will not take the field during the pre-season and it is not known when will he return to the game. While Griffin and coach Mike Shananan have implied that he would be ready for the season opener on Monday night, September 9, against the Eagles, RGIII has not been released to play by his surgeon. More on that story here. Meanwhile, it was announced today that the Eagles have chosen Michael Vick to be their starting quarterback.
UPDATE: It appears that Cousins’ sprain is minor and he will be ready for the opening game on September 9th. More here.
