Be Careful, Banning TikTok is Only the First Step

written by Guest Contributor Mena Yousef March 13, 2024

Since the Patriot Act was passed into law, the United States government has systematically built a system of surveillance and data collection on all American citizens. At the time when it was passed, the Patriot Act was being pushed because of the threat of terrorism after September 11th.

What the Patriot Act did in return was enable the U.S. government to spy on Americans and collect their data at its will. This was a concern that was raised before it became law, but it was passed anyway under the guise of an emergency.

And now in 2024, we’re facing a similar situation with the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act. With this bill, the U.S. government is now telling us it needs to give the President of the United States more control to determine what applications are deemed fine and which ones are a “threat to national security.”

It’s a vaguely worded bill that gives the power to the President to ban any application he/she deems to “present a significant threat to national security.” This is what they do. They tell you something is a “threat to national security”, twist your arm and corner you until you give in. Who would be against protecting national security?

The bill forces ByteDance, the Chinese company that owns TikTok, to either to sell TikTok to a U.S. company or be forced to shut down TikTok in the United States. They are suddenly worried about our data being in the hands of the Chinese. They would rather have an American company have our data – so the U.S. government can access it.

That’s what this is about.

We had Chinese spy balloons floating across America last year and were only shot down after they recorded everything they needed to record. China has been eating our lunch on trade and has been boxing us out in the Middle East, which is diminishing our influence, as well as buying up our farmland. But now we want to shut down innovation because our government wants that data. I have news for Uncle Sam, there are other ways to stop China, this isn’t one of them.

A government that told us they would never spy on Americans; the COVID vaccine STOPPED the virus and that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction can’t be trusted now when it tells us it’s protecting us from China. We have seen no evidence that the deep staters have any interest in countering China. But all of a sudden, they want you to believe that they’re worried about TikTok.

I don’t buy it, and you shouldn’t either.

And once pandora’s box is open, who won’t stop them from shutting down any other platform they deem to be a “threat to national security”? It’s the Patriot Act all over again, and this TikTok bill is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what companies could be shut down in the future.

Fascinating perspective on the potential consequences of a TikTok ban. I never thought about the ripple effect on the tech industry as a whole. Looking forward to seeing how this plays out in the future.

A Chinese-owned app is called a national security threat while a Russian-owned politician is called a Republican.

Not a problem at all! March 13, 2024 at 8:39 pm

1) The US senate did not have a problem allowing the sale of the worlds largest pork processor, Virginia based Smithfield foods, to China for about $8 Billion in 2015. Nope, no problem at all.
2) The White House, Senate, and US House didn’t have any problem allowing our semi conductor chip production plants to move to China, Korea, Taiwan, for the last 30 years. And just about one year ago, Congress passed a $300 BILLION bill to bring chip production back to the US, by subsidizing the building of chip plants in the USA for private industry. You see, the private companies that make chips were unwilling to finance the building of their chip plants in the USA because they know they cannot complete on the world market with USA made chips due to the high cost of US labor, the lack of qualified labor in the US, and a dysfunctional government that makes the problems worse.
3) There will never be enough qualified employee’s to work at any of these subsidized chip plants for the wage they will be willing to pay to be able to compete with the prices and quality of the chips from China, Taiwan, and Korea. This means government will have to subsidize payroll at these plants. Congress is not capable of fixing the issues such as the overpriced, fraud based healthcare system in the US, the overpriced prescription drugs, and many other issues that make the USA unable to compete on the world job market for quality jobs. Congress is however extremely good at passing laws such as legislating more holidays and more time off for employees, laws that make it impossible for the USA to compete abroad.
4) Allowing US based companies to have call centers in China were they have access to our personal information right in front of them on a computer screen is of course not a security risk in the eyes of Congress. But, of course TikTok is a massive security risk according to the elected Congressional wrecking crew. Why did China come up in my caller ID window several years ago when ATT support called me back to see if the technical issue was resolved regarding my phone service? Because they had my info that ATT supplied them right in front of them on their computer screen in China.😂😂😂😂
5) The biggest security threat to the national security of the USA is the American Corporation, the PAC and campaign financing system, and the totally incompetent, dishonest, greed based, people elected to Congress and the White House.

Best Wishes to all!
