Big donors leave DeSantis and turn to Governor Youngkin

written by Jeanine Martin August 1, 2023

Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis’ campaign has failed to catch the attention of Republican voters. His support now hovers in the upper teens. DeSantis has recently fired one-third of his campaign staff. He is now losing major donors and many of them are turning to Governor Glenn Youngkin whose job approval is at an all time high of 57%.

Governor Youngkin’s fundraising efforts are also hitting all time highs.

Former DeSantis supporter billionaire businessman Thomas Peterffy is now backing Youngkin for President.

From USAtoday.com:

““I very much hope that he’s going to enter the race. People I speak to are all favorably inclined towards him,” Peterffy told Fox Business Wednesday. “If he entered, I think there would be tremendous enthusiasm.”

According to the New York Times media mogul Rupert Murdoch is also hoping for a Youngkin run for President.

More from USAtoday.com:

“In no uncertain terms, Rupert Murdoch made clear that Ron DeSantis is his golden boy, no longer,” Trump’s team wrote in a press release Tuesday.”

“Wilbur Ross, former commerce secretary to Trump, will host top donors and party leaders at his Hamptons mansion Friday for “a chance to listen to Youngkin talk about how he’s going to take over the Virginia legislature,” according to the invitation.

While explicitly not a fundraiser, the event gives key party figures the opportunity to meet the governor and potentially boost Youngkin’s national profile.”

How does Governor Youngkin respond to all of this support for a run for President?

“It’s really humbling when people talk about 2024 and a national role for me. And I thank them, and then I reiterate that I’ve got a big job to do here,” Youngkin told USA TODAY.

It seems there needs to be a Republican candidate who can gain the support of the voters as the candidate who can beat Trump in the primaries and any Democrat opponent he faces in 2024. With Youngkin’s high approval in the purple state of Virginia, and his fundraising skills, he just might be the candidate who can do it.

Youngkin would first have to win the nomination over Trump as with every other Republican, then if they did win the nomination they would have to win in the general minus the write ins for Trump.
Other Republicans need to tread lightly or they will then not have enough votes to beat
Hillary for Dog Catcher.

Youngkin is the best governor we’ve had since James Monroe. Given the circumstances and resources and opponents he has to deal with in Virginia, he has done as much for conservativism as can be expected. In fact, he has done more. He has excelled both strategically and tactically. I suspect that, should he gain the legislature, we will see a tidal wave of additional conservative policies and laws.

Whatever his future is, it is bright.

In Virginia over the past year we have all witnessed illegal aliens digging holes approximately every 16’ apart on the side of the road for newly taxpayer funded high speed internet lines.
If Youngkin were to be elected President would he place at least the same amount of illegal aliens (16’ apart) building our Southern Border wall?

Someone please explain the appeal (what I really mean is “trust”) of Youngkin, when just a few short years ago he issued THIS statement? How do conservatives just “hand wave” this away like it didn’t happen?

Pfft, if you haven’t noticed, like any of that matters. As long as there is a “R” after the name, it’s all good. Just send money.

Just look at the alternatives and you will find the answer to that question.

I was really liking Desantis, and now, I now like Ramaswamy. Desamtis, with his abortion views, is simply not electable. Plus the ton of other Uber right baggage.

Trump, is a 😂😂😂😂😂

You know who, It’s my blog, of course I can voice my opinions. However you may not. You post only with my consent. Since you have decided to attack me, that consent is withdrawn.

“Attack” you? Typical Republicon — dish it out but can’t take it.

I’m sure “You Know Who” is heartbroken.

EC. As our friend Johnny Martin writes, GFY. Media Matters which use to have comments, not sure now because I could give a fuk what that idiotic Clinton website says, would kick you out of there in a New York minute. Ditto for Blue Virginia.
Not many liberal websites even have comments anymore. The Atlantic which shapes a lot of the narrative for the state, got rid of them.
So EC, as usual you are a dumbass… She should dump the comments likes liberal websites do so you can’t post your stupid drivel…

When did I attack you, or anyone else? When did I accuse a commenter of being drunk and/or stoned because I disagreed with them? When did I call you vile names? Never. Those things are not permitted on this blog. But I am sure you can find a liberal blog that permits it. Enjoy yourself!

Every once and a while you have to remind the vile democrat posters that there are limits to their vileness. You really allow them quite a bit of room to post and they doj’t appreciate it.

Big donors aren’t too bright if they dump DeSantis for Youngkin. Amazed that people smart enough to get lots of money can be so stupid.

You seem to be in the minority in your opinion. The great majority of people who meet Youngkin really like him, while DeSantis’ numbers are at an all time low. I like DeSantis, but I am clearly in the minority. It’s a good thing I really like Youngkin too!
