While campaigning for Supervisor on Saturday in the Century Oaks neighborhood, Kathy Smith was assaulted. Pamela Ichord, 58 was arrested and charged with simple assault. In a police email their spokesman, Capt. Ed O’Carroll said,[read_more]
“For an unknown reason, the homeowner became angry and blamed the candidate for various neighborhood issues,” O’Carroll wrote. “As the candidate turned to leave, she was pushed from behind which caused her to fall to the ground. As the candidate attempted to call 911, the clipboard she was holding was knocked from her hand and her phone grabbed and thrown into the yard. The candidate retrieved her cell phone, fled and called 911. The candidate was treated by rescue for non life-threatening injuries at the scene.”
Kathy Smith said her attacker was upset because of a school boundary change that Smith supported in 2008 which resulted in Ichord having two children in two different high schools. Apparently Ichord can hold a grudge and took it out on Mrs. Smith when she knocked on her door to introduce herself as a candidate for Supervisor. Smith said,
“I was yelling for help for what felt like an eternity”
A passerby interrupted the assault and Mrs. Smith escaped to her car and called the police. She was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Kathy Smith is running for Supervisor in the Sully district of Fairfax County against Republican John Guevara. When Guevara learned of the assault on Mrs. Smith he called her to offer his concern and support.
UPDATE: Making this story even more bizarre, Pamela Ichord and her husband are very strong Democrats who never miss voting for a Democrat. Her husband, Robert F. Ichord is an Obama appointee at the State Department. Reading between the very bureaucrat lines of his biography it appears he tells foreign governments how to convert to using more green energy. One might ask, why is the State Department promoting Obama’s ridiculous energy policies to other countries around the world? Are they running out of ways to waste our money? Does the State Department have nothing better to do?
