Six months ago Don Shaw announced a run for Supervisor in the Brentsville District of Prince William County. He has changed his mind and is now running for the House of Delegates district 13, the district represented by Delegate Bob Marshall for over 20 years. The two candidates will face off in 2015. The Derecho has an interesting take on why Don Shaw has made this switch:
I suspect the reason Mr. Shaw dropped his campaign for the Brentsville seat had more to do with money than being able to have a “greater impact in Richmond by working to advance responsible economic legislation and mainstream social policies in the General Assembly”.
The numbers are telling and suggest the Mr. Shaw had virtually no support in the Brentsville District. Although VPAP reports $26,006 in receipts for this reporting period, if you subtract the $23,112 in loans and contributions by Mr. Shaw, you are left with a paltry $2,894 in contributions over the six month period, of which a third came from outside the Brentsville Magisterial District. Similarly, the campaign spent only $7,194. Most striking however is that only 36 individual contributions are listed, including those Mr. Shaw made to his own campaign.
Without the support of people in the Brentsville’s district, Mr. Shaw will now see if he fares any better in the 13th district.
