John Beatty running for nomination in the 10th district

written by Jeanine Martin January 3, 2024

Former School Board member John Beatty who represented the Catoctin district, is running again for the Republican nomination to represent the Virginia’s 10th district in Congress.

From the LoudounTimes.com:

In a Jan. 2 interview, Beatty said that he’s running again with the hope of breaking the status quo of “dysfunction” and polarization in Congress.

Most candidates who run for Congress are going to adhere to “whatever the party line is,” Beatty said. “And I think we need people in Congress that are going to try to reform the organization.”

Beatty said he aims to change the fundamental structure of Congress, including implementing term limits, increasing the number of representatives and tightening campaign finance laws. Such changes, Beatty said, would “level the playing field” and encourage more engagement from constituents.“

Beatty is a devout catholic and the pro-life movement is “pro-life issue is incredibly important” to him.

“I think we need to help moms in crisis pregnancies, help babies,” Beatty said, “and I think Republicans are too afraid to talk about that, and I want to be very strong on that issue. … If you don’t support life at all aspects, from conception to the natural death, I think you have a problem in society.”

Two other Republicans are running for the nomination, Mike Clancy, and Brooke Taylor. In 2022 Beatty, Clancy, and Taylor ran for the nomination to challenge Rep. Jennifer Wexton who is not running again due to health issues. Out of the 11 candidates in 2022, Mike Clancy came in 4th behind the winner Hung Cao, Brandon Michon, and Jeanine Lawson. Cao is now running for Senate against Tim Kaine.

Democrats running for the nomination include former Virginia House speaker Eileen Filler-Corn, state Sen. Jennifer Boysko, D-Herndon, Del. David Reid, D-Ashburn, Del. Dan Helmer, D-Fairfax, state Sen. Suhas Subramanyam, Del. Michelle Maldonado, D-Manassas, former Virginia Secretary of Education Atif Qarni and Mark Leighton, a George Mason University librarian, Krystle Kaul, a defense contractor, Brandon Garay, a Department of Defense official, Travis Nembhard, an attorney, and Adrian Pokharel, a former intelligence officer, have all announced bids for Wexton’s seat. Most of the candidates live in the 10th district although Eileen Filler-Corn lives in the 11th. Candidates running for Congress need not live in the district although most do.

The 10th Congressional district Republican committee has not yet decided which form of nomination the party will use to select their candidate.

Loudoun county residents make up half of the voters in the 10th district.

United Democrats defeat split Republicans — fastest route is substituting judgment for that of women. Good luck with this approach!
