RedNova8.com has provided us with the school stats for the area for 2016, including expenditures, teachers’ salaries, SAT scores and graduation rates.
Every year Fairfax county public schools and Loudoun county public schools argue for increased salaries to stop the flow of teachers to the other county for higher pay. The chart below shows the fallacy in that argument. With salaries this close no teacher is going to take the expensive step of moving for an annual increase in salary of a few hundred dollars.
When benefits are factored in, the counties pay substantially more for teachers:
Cost per pupil varies widely across the area from a low of $10,724 in Prince William county to a high of $18,032 in Falls Church city.
Student demographics across the area:
SAT scores also has wide variation, from a low of 1199 in Prince George’s County to a high of 1776 in Falls Church city. Another interesting thing to note is the low percentage of students taking the SAT in Prince William county, only 58.4%, by far the lowest in the area. Also interesting is Prince George’s county has a participation rate for the SAT’s at 84% while Montgomery county’s rate is only 67.8% .
