Scott York May Re-Enter Loudoun Race for Chairman

written by Jeanine Martin June 1, 2015

Sigh. Don’t blink in Loudoun County politics, something will change. Now the Washington Post is reporting that current Republican board chairman Scott York is considering a run for re-election as an Independent and has people collecting petition signatures on his behalf.[read_more]

“I have been asked by a lot of people to give consideration to jumping back in this because they do have concerns with the candidates that have announced their intentions to run for this spot, particularly their lack of experience serving on the board,” York said. “I am concerned as well.”

Other than incumbents, no one has experience in the office they are running for. In 2011 Loudoun voters elected 7 of 9 Republicans to the Board of Supervisors who had no prior experience on the board.

Scott York has been Chairman of the Board in Loudoun since 1999 at times elected as a Republican and elected three times as an Independent.

When Scott’s consultant and campaign manager, Tom Julia and Chad Campbell, went to work for Republican candidate Charlie King it was widely assumed that York would not run for re-election.  Apparently York is now considering a run even without the help Julia and Campbell. It is rumored that York is gathering a new campaign team.

Currently  three candidates are in the race for Loudoun Chair, the Democratic candidate Phyllis Randall, Tom Bellanca, Scott York’s Democrat opponent in 2011 who is now running as an Independent, and Republican nominee Leesburg attorney, Charlie King. It is assumed by many Republicans in Loudoun that Shawn Williams will not run for Chairman if York gets in the race and vice versa.  But York claims Williams’ possible run has no bearing on his decision to run.

“There is always a possibility of running against each other, so it could be a field of five,” York said.

Oh joy, five people running for chairman of the board. Won’t that be fun?  #onlyinLoudoun.

The good news, there are only 7 days until the June 9th deadline to file to run for office.  Scott York has promised to make his decision by then.

“Come June 9, everyone will know [if I decide to run,]” he said.

Thanks Scott.
