Barbara Comstock calls on Roy Moore to step down

written by Jeanine Martin November 10, 2017

Congresswoman Barbara Comstock is comparing Judge Roy Moore to Anthony Weiner and asking that he step down from his Senate race in Alabama over recent allegations of sexual misconduct occurring 38 years ago.  Nothing has been proven, and with these accusations coming a month before a special election for Senate it certainly seems suspicious.

From the Hill.com Rep Comstock said:

Harvey Weinstein, Anthony Weiner, Roger Ailes, Roy Moore…No MOORE of this,” Comstock said Friday in a statement. “I believed the stories from the victims of Harvey Weinstein, Roger Ailes and others because they were substantiated and consistent with the stories of how sexual predators operate.”

“To date Roy Moore has not provided any credible explanation or response to the detailed allegations,” Comstock continued. “The defense from some of his supporters is beyond disturbing. Today, the National Review Editorial board also set out the case against Roy Moore and why he should drop out. Roy Moore should not serve in the U.S. Senate.”

Roy Moore denies having ever met his accuser, although says he may have dated some teenagers, 17 and 18 year olds, in the 1970’s:

Mr. Moore, meanwhile, remained defiant, insisting in a radio interview with Sean Hannity that he would stay in the race. He told Mr. Hannity, the Fox News host, who has endorsed Mr. Moore’s candidacy, that he “never had any contact” with Leigh Corfman, the woman who told The Washington Post that Mr. Moore touched her sexually when she was 14, though he did not deny dating some teenagers.

No other women have come forward to accuse Judge Moore of inappropriate behavior.  If Moore resigns from the race for Senate it is too late to put another candidate on the ballot.  Moore’s Democrat opponent, Doug Jones, will win the race and become the 49th Democrat in the Senate. That will make it virtually impossible for Senate Leader Mitch McConnell to pass tax reform, healthcare reform, or any other major legislation.

Judge Moore’s supporters stand by him. An interview with Roy Moore about the accusations here.  Steve Bannon’s involvement here.
