Colorado voters delivered a massive slapdown to Nurse Bloomberg and the gun grabbers yesterday, succeeding in ousting two Democrat lawmakers who supported draconian new restrictions on Second Amendment rights.
Voters replaced two Democrat state senators with Republicans yesterday using Colorado’s recall election process, despite hundreds of thousands of dollars of national liberal interest group money to support the gun grabbers, including $350,000 from Bloomberg himself.
In speaking in favor of the legislation that would ultimately spell his political demise, one of the booted Democrats spoke of restrictions on magazine sizes as “cleansing a sickness from our souls.” Colorado voters rejected this, and instead cleansed a sickness from the Colorado Senate.
Now, Bloomberg is apparently pinning his hopes for an anti-Second Amendment victory on none other than Virginia’s own Terry McAuliffe. At the end of August, as the Colorado recall efforts were heating up, Bloomberg and McAuliffe reportedly met in McAuliffe’s native state of New York. The meeting prompted Second Amendment advocates in Virginia to wonder if Bloomberg and McAuliffe may have discussed something similar to NY SAFE Act for Virginia as a condition of Bloomberg’s financial support or endorsing McAuliffe; this would presumably help McAuliffe court Virginia’s business-oriented independent voters, particularly in Northern Virginia. Virginia, like Colorado, is quickly becoming a national bellwether on a host of issues.
Memo to Bloomberg: Please, please, please endorse Terry McAuliffe loudly and publicly! Virginia’s law abiding gun owners need to know just what kind of candidate McAuliffe is. To the extent Colorado and Virginia are each a “national bellwether” on this issue, we in Virginia are looking forward to delivering the same kind of message voters in Colorado have done.
