As I reported last week, a special election was called to fill Eric Cantor’s seat for the remainder of his term, since Cantor announced that he would leave office early rather than finish out the last few months of his term. The special election will be held on the same day as the general election in November.
The 7th District Republican Committee was required to nominate a candidate for the special election, since Brat was elected in the June primary to be the Republican nominee for the general election. The 7th GOP Committee decided upon a mass meeting to determine their nominee if more than one candidate filed to be the Republican nominee for the special election.
The deadline was today at noon for candidates to file for the special election. No other candidate filed to be the Republican nominee for the special election other than Dave Brat. As a result, the mass meeting scheduled for tomorrow night has been cancelled and Brat is officially the Republican nominee for both the special and general election.
Get ready to see his name listed twice on the ballot come November 4th! Onward…
