The Bull Elephant wrote earlier about the 2nd District Parliamentary Ping Pong match to determine who will be 2nd District Chairman – Frank Wagner or Curtis Colgate. It seems that the referee, RPV Chairman Pat Mullins, has decided to step in and put an end to the nonsense in the 2nd District by affirming that Curtis Colgate is the right 2nd District Chairman, as elected at the 2nd District Convention.
VIRGINIA BEACH – Curtis Colgate is recognized as the Chairman of the Republican Party of Virginia’s (RPV) 2nd Congressional District said State Party Chairman Pat Mullins on The John Fredericks Radio Show Wednesday.
“Curtis Colgate is the chairman of the second district – no question,” said Mullins. “I am not about to go down in Larry Sabato’s next ‘History of Virginia’ as the only party chairman that allows seven people to overturn the vote of 700 people.”
Mullins went on to say that the GOP needs to honor the district convention vote because the party is meant to be “inclusive” and a “big tent,” as opposed to “exclusive” and a “pup tent.”
Colgate easily won the district convention by a weighted vote of 508-362, which was held April 26 at Hampton University.
“Chairman Mullins is exactly right: our campaign had the most delegates filed to attend the convention, the most delegates to actually attend the convention, and, after the votes were counted, the most votes to win the convention,” said Colgate. “Now is not the time for confusion and parliamentary tricks: we need to roll up our sleeves, get to work, and be clear to the voters of the 2nd District about the Republican plan for getting government off our backs, growing the economy, and creating jobs.”
Mullins said Colgate has been recognized by the state committee and that Colgate is the only one authorized to call any meetings. He also said that should there be any contests to the convention results RPV will take appropriate steps to resolve the situation.

For background purposes to this story, Eric Cantor and Frank Wagner’s forces slated delegates in VA Beach so they would have the numbers to win at the 2nd District Convention. The disenfranchised delegates appealed the slate to the 2nd District Committee on the grounds that it was improperly executed and the appeal was upheld. The remedy from the 2nd District Committee was that all properly filed delegates from Virginia Beach were to be seated at the 2nd District Convention. As a result, Curtis Colgate won the 2nd District Convention and became the Chairman of the 2nd District.
Frank Wagner had members of the 2nd District Committee call a meeting (without the consent of the new chairman, Curtis Colgate) to overturn the election results of the 2nd District Convention. At this meeting, a select group of 2nd District Committee members unilaterally overturned the results of the 2nd District Convention. Chairman Mullins’ response to this latest maneuver by the Cantor/Wagner is decisively rebuked, as you can see above.
If you think this is unbelievable, you won’t believe what is going on in the 5th District. There 5th District Convention is this Saturday. Cantor’s people are pulling out all the stops. More to come on that. Stay tuned…
