As we reported here last night, Jim Moran (D-Anti-Semite) announced today his retirement from Congress. It came as a surprised to everyone in his district and across the Commonwealth. In his announcement Moran said this was the “ideal” time to step down.
“Knowing myself, if there was a challenger, I know I wouldn’t be retiring,” Moran said. “I could never let anyone suggest that I was backing down from a challenge. . . . I want to go out on a high note.”
He continued: “This is the time to leave — when you’re in a position when you have no regrets, or the least regrets. I don’t have anything that I need to overcome or prove to myself, from a professional standpoint.”
Moran’s district is heavily democrat, giving Obama 68% of the vote in 2012. The district includes Arlington County, Alexandria, Falls Church, and part of Fairfax County. These democrats are reported to be considering a run for the seat, Adam Ebbin, Patrick Hope, Charniele Herring, Danny Barefoot, Alfonso Lopez, Bruce Shuttleworth, Bill Euille, Kerry Donley, Jeff McKay, Mark Sickles. Will Brian Moran return from Richmond to run for his brother’s vacated seat? Does Ron Meyer’s recent move to Falls Church signal a run for the seat? This is going to be a very interesting story to follow.
