UPDATE: Joe Morrisey says he’s innocent. He claims that his phone, and the phone of the young woman, were both hacked by a third party. Although the woman left the job with Morrisey in August, he bought her a car and spent the night with her in a hotel in October. He was seen with her socially last month.
According to CBS channel 6 news Delegate Joe Morrisey faces 5 child sex charges and up to 30 years in jail. Those charges include:
supervisory indecent liberties with a minor, electronic solicitation of a minor, possession of child pornography, distribution of child pornography and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The charges stem from a sexual relationship Delegate Morrisey had with an underage receptionist in his law office. He had sex with her in his office and then (stupidly) texted a friend about it. He also sent a text to the young girl asking her for a nude picture which she provided. Morrisey sent that picture to friends. The girl, her mother, and her grandmother, all deny that she had a sexual relationship with Morrisey. However, phone records from Morrisey and the girl confirm their relationship. The investigation has been ongoing for almost a year beginning when the girl’s father went to Morrisey’s house looking for his daughter. Her mother claimed her daughter had permission to be at Morrisey’s house. Within weeks of the girl’s hiring on August 5th, Morrisey began having sex with her in his office. The girl lied on her job application saying that she was 22 years old. Police believe Morrisey was aware of her true age.
Morrisey is the Virginia delegate who last year brandished an AK47 on the floor of the House of Delegates. Joe Morrisey was elected to the House of Delegates in 2007, having previously served as the Commonwealth’s Attorney for Richmond. He was previously convicted of beating a man and threatening to kill him. For that incident he lost his law license for a decade. He represents the 74th district which covers Richmond, Hopewell, Charles City County and parts of the counties of Henrico and Prince George. He is the father of three daughters and currently single.
