Today Democrats in the House of Delegates voted by secret ballot to remove their leader, Eileen Filler-Corn (D-Fairfax). There were concerns over the Republicans winning all three statewide seats and the House of Delegates last year and a lack of preparation for the next election, whether it be this year or next.
Delegate Don Scott Jr. (D-Portsmouth) led the movement to replace to Filler-Corn and he has made an announcement that he is running to replace her. He was first elected to the House of Delegates in 2019. Filler-Corn has served in the House since 2010.
During their one-day session today Democrats chose not to vote on a new minority leader, giving others a chance to consider running to replace Filler-Corn. Delegate Mark Sickles (D-Fairfax said), “We’ll do it quickly, like, probably the next time we’re in town”.
