Earlier today Bearing Drift posted a video of Fairfax democrat attorney John Farrell attacking a republican poll watcher, slapping him and saying that the republican was only there because John Farrell was allowing him to be. Democrats believe that they own the polls in Fairfax and any republican who is allowed near a poll is because the democrats have granted them permission. John Farrell is the general counsel for the Fairfax Democrat Committee.
“You’re only here because I’m letting you be here”
“I don’t think I’ve ever heard a more disturbing comment in my life. As you can plainly see in the video, this man isn’t interested in seeing ballots counted. He’s interested in making sure that Republicans are at a disadvantage.
Our staffers had one mission at this site: to help voters who have cast provisional ballots get their ballots counted. They were sitting at a table, minding their own business, when this person decided that he made the rules in Fairfax County.
This is just sickening. The persuasion phase of this election is over. Now we’re just trying to help people get their ballots counted.
Mark Herring and the Democratic Party of Virginia need to denounce this behavior immediately and remove this person, in whatever capacity he was assisting their effort, immediately. But after what we’ve seen out of them during this campaign, I will not be surprised in the least if they take no action at all.”
Brian Schoeneman is the election official in Fairfax who decided to change the rules in Fairfax extending the deadline until Tuesday for provisional ballot voters to appear before the Electoral board and by giving the political parties access to the provisional logs 24 hours before the official meeting to examine the provisional ballots. No other provisional voters in Virginia had these special considerations given to their ballots. (More on those issues in another post.) Brian responded to the assault on the republican poll watcher in a comment to the post on Bearing Drift. His response to the attack is shocking, a response that our party leaders have disagreed with, in the strongest possible terms, as seen above.

Guys, chill. Nothing untoward happened here. It was an argument over space that got blown out of proprotion. I’ve admonished John not to do this again and he’s agreed.
Done. Move on.
Stunning. Just stunning. John Farrell has agreed to stop slapping republican poll watchers, to stop acting like he owns the polls, and that’s good enough for his buddy Brian. Wow. I am so glad that we have republican leaders in our party, and at Bearing Drift, who understand the severity of what happened in Fairfax and what is continuing to happen there.
