“Deliver the Truth. Whatever the cost.” That’s the tag line for a powerful new documentary about Michael Thomas Flynn, who served the United States for 33 years in a distinguished military career before finding himself in the crosshairs of an increasingly corrupt, out of control federal government.
These days, news travels at the speed of social media. Old stories are swept away to be forgotten in the deluge of constant ‘Breaking!’ news. That is why the “Flynn” documentary is essential to watch, because we must never forget what this man faced, stared down and overcame to defend the Truth and his personal honor. There are lessons for each one of us, lest we face similar circumstances.
General Flynn’s military career specialized in military intelligence. He played pivotal roles in fighting the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq before rising to the position of Director of Intelligence for the United States Central Command followed by the Joint Staff.
During the Obama Administration, Flynn became Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency in 2012. But when he criticized intelligence operations and attempted reforms, he quickly ran into opposition and left his position early, retiring after 33 years in the miliary with the rank of Lieutenant General.
After spending time in the private sector offering intelligence and security services, Flynn became increasingly outspoken in the political arena, eventually advising presidential candidate Donald Trump on national security matters. After Donald Trump was elected President, during the time of transition, outgoing President Obama warned President-elect Trump not to trust Michael Flynn.
Despite Obama’s opaque warning, President Trump appointed General Flynn to serve as his National Security Advisor. The political attacks against Flynn began immediately; he resigned just 24 days after stepping into his role as National Security Advisor.
Why the sudden attacks against General Flynn, coordinated by people within a government he had served with distinction his entire adult life? The answer to that question unfolds in the “Flynn” documentary. It is gut-wrenching – and essential — to watch.
As I watched the movie, I was reminded of similar unrelenting attacks by media, law enforcement and federal intelligence agencies on Donald Trump, people associated with him, and innocent Americans caught up in the aftermath of the January 6 debacle. I also was reminded of a warning Senator Chuck Schumer made on Rachel Maddow’s show in January 2017 while discussing Donald Trump: “You take on the intelligence community, they have six ways from Sunday at gettin’ back at ya.”
One of Michael Flynn’s brothers sums up the documentary’s message succinctly: “The Flynn story is foundational to understanding the corruption in our government. Michael was meant for this time. He withstood and beat the evil. Our country is going off the rails. People want Hope. They need Hope. They want warriors. Michael is a Warrior.”
A Flynn sister urges: “We must pull together to drive this Darkness out. Michael wasn’t broken because of his family and faith.”
During the movie, Flynn offers this reflection at a time when he and his son were under vicious, personal attack: “Life is fleeting. Is there Love there?” Love of family. Love of country. Michael Flynn personifies both.
Each of us should take to heart what people say in this movie about Michael Flynn’s character and apply the sentiments to our own lives: Michael Flynn wasn’t broken because of the love of his family and faith. He was wounded but not broken. He has an unwavering commitment to tell the Truth.
In the end, Michael Flynn is grateful that, “I am here. And I can tell my story.” Each one of us can learn from his story. Michael Flynn shows how to set faith and love of family as a bulwark against unwarranted attack. How to be resolute for Truth and personal honor when under assault by the heavy hand of a corrupted State. How to stand with Courage in the face of Evil.

Thank you so much for taking the time to add your valuable perspective, Jay.
Cathy:
Well done and thanks for writing this.
I knew Flynn when he was just a young officer (Major, I think) and watched his career (I was an Army Intel guy too). He was a superstar from the jump and always an outside-the-box thinker. What he focused on was the mission and had no patience for bureaucratic bs. That rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, as far too many are invested in the “system.” When he threatened the military-industrial complex, and especially the classified budget part of it (which is HUGE and flies totally under the average American’s radar) he had to go.
That is background. The two “real stories” are that 1) Our government officials are power-hungry and corrupt, and not at all afraid of using the power of their position to take down American citizens – even war heroes – with lies and lawfare, and 2) “All is vapor” and General Flynn was able to recover from this attack due to his faith and understanding that what matters is not of this world, but God and a commitment to truth regardless of the worldly consequences.
Thank you again!
Jay
