GOP leaders in Richmond announced today there will be a meeting of the Joint Reapportionment Committee at 8:30 Monday morning and a public hearing at 3 p.m. The committee will provide an overview, input and criteria for producing the new redrawn map of the 11 Congressional districts in Virginia.
The General Assembly must remap the Congressional districts after a federal panel ruled too many Blacks were packed into the 3rd district.
“These meetings are important and necessary prerequisites to filing redistricting legislation,” (House Speaker)Howell added. “Once these meetings are complete, the House will work efficiently and diligently in an effort to meet the court-ordered September 1 deadline. Redistricting is a complicated and arduous legal process made more difficult by the compressed time frame under which we are operating.”
