The Governors of Texas, Ohio, Mississippi, Kentucky, Alabama, Indiana, Oklahoma and Iowa have issued Coronavirus Executive Orders to not perform elective medical procedures, including abortion, during the pandemic. Unfortunately, Governor Ralph Northam has done the exact opposite.
On March 25, Gov. Northam, “directed all hospitals to stop performing elective surgeries or procedures to help conserve supplies of personal protective equipment (PPE).” But the Governor exempted abortion from his order: “The public health emergency order does not apply to … family planning services.”
[As of April 8, there have been 75 Virginia deaths from the Corona Virus. In 2017 there were 17,210 abortions in Virginia.]
In calling Abortion “family planning,” Gov. Northam is following the advice of Planned Parenthood, (345,672 abortions nationwide 2018), in allowing abortion clinics to stay open. Planned Parenthood gave $1,996,346, to Gov. Northam’s through his 2017 election campaign.
According to Judicial Watch, Northam used “talking points” from Planned Parenthood and the National Abortion Rights Action League to defend Virginia’s infamous late term abortion bill, (no different from infanticide), introduced by Delegate Kathy Tran (D-Fairfax) in January 2019.
Virginians should urge Governor Northam to include abortion in his Corona Virus ban on elective medical procedures, to stop the diversion of much needed medical supplies, including Personal Protective Equipment needed for those treating persons sick with the Coronavirus.
The Virginia Health Department should also inform women that since the Coronavirus disease flourishes in persons with weakened immune systems, women should be informed that Oral Contraception (Pill, Implants, Injectable) use compromises their immune system.
A 2017 review of 422 medical/scientific articles on Oral Contraceptives available from the US Public Health Service Library concluded that:
“Hormonal contraceptives (HCs), such as the “pill,” Norplant, and vaginal rings, are very potent hormones that have effects on the immune system, which is made up of white blood cells and lymph nodes and normally defends the body against invading bacteria, viruses and parasites. … There is good evidence that HC use is associated with an increased risk of several serious autoimmune diseases such as Crohn’s disease (which causes inflammation of the bowels), Lupus (which causes inflammation in many organs), and interstitial cystitis (which causes inflammation in the bladder). Several other rarer autoimmune diseases are also linked to HC use. People contemplating the use of HCs should be informed of these risks. …”
“The literature supports a substantial risk inherent in the use of potent hormonal agents, including CHCs and progesterone only contraceptives, to predispose users to subsequent development of autoimmune diseases. These risks currently are not acknowledged in prescribing information and the information conveyed to women before they receive these agents.”
Action Item:
- Contact Gov. Northam and urge him to end his exemption of abortion providers from his Coronavirus Executive Order suspending elective medical procedures during the pandemic, to preserve personal protective equipment (PPE) for those caring for patients in hospitals, and to also mandate informed consent in any state-funded “family planning” program to disclose the risk that Oral Contraceptives pose to a woman’s immune system, especially during the Coronavirus pandemic. Write to Governor Ralph Northam, PO Box 1475, Richmond, VA 23218, or email him at Constituent Services.
- Ask your state delegate/senator to urge Governor Northam to end the abortion exemption from the Governor’s ban on elective medical treatment during the Corona virus pandemic in order to preserve PPE and to also inform women of the heightened immune system risk from Oral Contraceptives, to protect women during the Corona Virus pandemic.
