Governor McDonnell said yesterday that the special election for Senate in the 33rd district will take place one month from today on January 21, 2014. Three candidates are running to replace Mark Herring who has announced that he will resign his Senate seat on January 11, 2014. John Whitbeck is the republican candidate for Herring’s seat, Jennifer Wexton is the democrat candidate, and Joe May is an independent candidate in the race. John Whitbeck actually lives in the district that he hopes to represent.
